Re: OT: low-voltage grounding
I am far from an authority on this subject, but the AC safety ground would not be the same as the outgoing DC common.
This is easiest to see in a linear supply where the primary windings of the transformer will be the AC hot and neutral, and the secondary windings will be used as the DC common and the voltage supply to be rectified. Switch mode supplies are more complex, but in the end you'll still see the same basic thing. The AC ground is really just a safety feature and shouldn't be carrying current from any part of the circuit unless something is wrong. GLI breakers trip if there is sufficient current on the AC ground. |
Re: OT: low-voltage grounding
Incoming AC generally doesn't have any ground. However, in 3-pin mains connections you have a PE (protective earth). This PE should be connected to chassis in case you have a metal enclosure. If the enclosure is non-conductive, it's possible to use only 2 wires and leave PE unconnected. Generally speaking, all metal chassis end up connected to PE wire in the outlet.
If you provide more details it may be easier to understand what is meant by "incoming AC fround". |
Exterity IP control
Has anybody got the Exterity module from the Application Market to work? I've got a bunch of r9200 receivers (latest firmware) but can't get a response from them at all - not even an invalid credentials warning (I'm using default login details). I saw a post mentioning network hops - maybe that's the problem? |

Doesn¡¯t auto track, but having a physical thing is kinda nice. It¡¯s put on paper just how messed up my day is.

OT: automatically track time used on computer
Heather Baiman
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI have been using a free program, TimeTrack 0.4.2 for over ten years.? Is simply keeps track of the time a file is the focus on one's computer.? I use it to track the time I spend on programming, etc. since I do many things in a day and am all over the place.? It has been declining and doesn't record some newer software (ie Acad19).? They made modern version of it awhile back, 6.0.2, that requires a paid license and I started using the trial version about a month ago to see if it was more reliable than the old version.? It records all software, but it crashes a lot and if you don't realize it, you end up with no data. The company's website is defunct as well, so no point in pursuing it. ? I downloaded MemoryTracker today as a trial. ? Anyone else use a tracking program?? I don't need any fancy reports or robust timesheet controls; just need it to track the time a file is open and in use without any involvement from me. ?I don't mind paying for it. ? TIA |
Re: AMX software
Late last year, AMX paid for me and our other programmer to attend their 'AMX for Crestron Programmers' class. I'm sure it had another official name, but that's what it really was. It was pretty interesting to see the approach of another control systems company. Their GUI design program was much more powerful than VTProE (drag and drop icons to make your own free-form video switcher smart object) , and some of the concepts on modules were pretty awesome (think universal join numbers to make swapping from one brand of device to another). Still, we're pretty heavily invested in the Crestron approach, so I wouldn't say we've sold much more AMX as a result of the class, but it has made me more confident to at least offer to upgrade a customer's AMX system with more AMX rather than a complete flip to Crestron.

Re: AMX software
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI got the same email that guzzep quoted (never been an AMX anything aside from walking through the booth at Infocomm and maybe downloading a manual years ago) and I¡¯m likewise curious if that really means that software will be out in the open. ? Though the trajectory or AMX under Samsung/Harmon is not what it was before they got ingested. ? Lincoln ? -- Lincoln King-Cliby, CTS, DMC-E-4K/T/D ? From: Crestron@... [mailto:Crestron@...]

? I got the same email, we are a Harmon dealer and have never sold AMX.? I have been interested in learning AMX and I started exploring the site and signed up using my Harmon dealer number.? I think what they are doing is opening up AMX software to all Harmon dealers (before you had to exclusively be a AMX dealer to get software), but since I am a Harmon dealer, then I now have access to the material.? I don't think they are opening up to the public (although I don't know that). ? ?

Re: Is it possible to call the iphone or iPad keyboard with crestron?
It is possible to pull the internal keyboard on an iOS platform, use the Text Entry smart graphic.? You can NOT send those strings as search request to the apple TV (that I'm aware of), maybe there is a module out there I haven't looked at Ultamation's module.

Re: AMX software
Phil, I don't think anyone is asking for software.

Re: AMX software
I recently got this email from AMX (text color highlights are mine). It's unclear about software, it might fall under 'certain services' Will have to wait until the 31st to find out for sure. Greetings, We are moving and consolidating AMX product and technical resources to AMX.com to provide you with ONE destination for everything AMX and make it easier to use. Site Enhancements and Updates include:

Ryan, not true, thankfully. FYI, I was logged in with Firefox and logged out without clearing cookies-history-passwords-etc, and could still use the Tech Site. I don't use Safari and have not logged in using Safari and I could not access the Trade Site. Looks like a "feature" :)

Re: Analog phone/Gate call Integration
So, it was relatively easy to get the system set up to the point where the gate line (1-224-thenumber), which is a long distance number, rings all the panels simultaneously. I configured an analog trunk in the UCM-6102 for the incoming gate line. I created the extensions in the UCM-6102 for each panel, and created a ring group in the UCM-6102 so all panels rings simultaneously. Problem is, I can't figure out how to actually open the gate. If you are at the gate station, there is a telephone keypad where you can call the house you are going to visit (presumably the 224- number), or enter a 5 digit code and the gate opens. I have tried sending that 5 digit code from the panel while the call is connected, I have tried sending that code after the call is disconnected. I have tried sending 1-224-thenumber|thecode. I assume you don't want to give the code out to everyone who comes to visit, and should be able to open the gate from the house. Do I need to be able to send DTMF tones? I confess I'm pretty ignorant about this whole process.?

Re: AMX software
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýApparently AMX gave up and put all their software up online and available - no login needed.?
