Re: NVX Philosophical Network Config Pondering

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Funny coincidence ¨C I?m currently at the exact same point: replacing my the current DM-stuff in my house with NVX.

The DMF-chassis with 6x350C arrived last week and is already up and running and I?ve collected a bunch of 350 and D30/E30 over time that are ready to go.

I already have a fairly reasonable network in place all based on Netgear M4300 and M42500 switches, interconnected via 10G fiber.

?

My setup won?t be as large as your?s. I?m looking only at 6x350C installed in the chassis that I plan to use as encoders and just about 3-4 projectors and displays for the decoders. All wired up nicely with CAT6 when we moved in 10 years ago. ?

?

With regards to bandwidth: I?d plan the bandwidth requirements on actual use, not worst-case. At least for my own house. So which/how many streams are you actually about to use at the same time? How likely is it that all your encoders and decoders will transmit/receive streams at the same time?
I think you should be able to scale down the uplinks.

?

With regards to the VLAN/querier question: querier data is just metadata and not the actual streams. So I would go ¡°by the book¡±. At least that?s what I?ll do. I?ve put all the NVX stuff on a dedicated VLAN with the querier remaining on the core.

?

Cheers,

Thorsten

How many TV/Decoder end-points outside of your rack??

?

I'm definitely above my head on a lot of these streaming network details but:

- If you have 24 encode/decoders or less, I would put them all on one switch. I think this would eliminate the need for a fat uplink.

- Since you're using the DMF chassis' to power the encoders (and decoders for AVRs in rack, etc.), you wouldn't need POE for these, thus the POE requirements would be limited saving $$ on the switch you'd need for this

- If you need more than 24 ports, going to a 48 port unit with limited/half-POE budget, could solve this also...

Sorry if I'm missing details in your system design, and of course you probably already have thought of these things...

Hope you can get things going great!! sounds fun!!!

Sorry I don't have one set up to test; with a Horizon 2 dimmer, will the control system see when two buttons are pressed simultaneously? I'm considering using one button as a modifier to get an additional function from a rocker.

NVX Philosophical Network Config Pondering

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I¡¯ve been in the process of gathering NVX to replace DM in my home system and I¡¯m to the tipping point where I¡¯m one FedEx delivery away from having ¡°enough¡± that I can pull out DM and survive without a few sources and a few destinations.

?

Currently the ¡°AV Closet¡± has a couple fairly old Cisco 12-port 10/100/1000 fanless switches uplinked to my core. Obviously that won¡¯t support NVX well. The existing traffic on the switches is pretty light ¨C processor <> processor, processor <> touchpanel (via core), Chromecast, Apple TV, etc.

?

The AV Closet will (eventually) have 2 DMF-CI8s and possibly a loose decoder or two ¨C worst case though is 16 encode and at 750MB that¡¯s about 12Gb/s (or 16 Gb/s if we assume full line rate from every encoder). For the most part I¡¯m planning on hanging the decoders in rooms off the existing DM CAT however there are a few places where feeding them from the core makes more sense (and currently I¡¯m doing weird DM cross-connects to make it work).

?

My current plan is to replace both of the current switches with a Cisco 3850 12X48U (12x10G ports and 36 1G ports) and to LAG some number of the 10G ports back to the core.

?

My internal debate that I¡¯m curious about the collective thoughts:

?

  1. Cisco¡¯s implementation of LAG is only optimal with an even pair of links in the group. 2x10G would give me 20G theoretical with 4G of headroom which seems like it should be plenty considering everything else is running in a 2G aggregate link and not even hitting 1% utilization¡ but should I just double than to 4x10G (40G aggregate) since I have the cable path and ports available and I¡¯m suspicious that now that ¡°DM jacks¡± and ¡°LAN jacks¡± will be interchangeable traffic from things in the field may wind up hitting this switch on the way to the core?

?

  1. What are the feelings about throw NVX on my existing ¡°Crestron/IoT¡± VLAN (with the existing IGMP querier on the Core) or create a new AVoIP VLAN with the querier running on the ¡°AV¡± switch? I¡¯m torn because keeping it on the core seems like the most ¡°by the book¡± answer and with 20 or 40g between the switches shouldn¡¯t have any traffic/blocking concerns but on the other hand if virtually all of the encoders live on the AV switch it seems kind of stupid to forward that traffic to the core just for the sake of having all of the IGMP queriers live in the same place. ?(I¡¯m also considering playing with Layer 3 multicast routing which is heretofore something I¡¯ve never even dipped my toe in the water on)

?

Thoughts? I don¡¯t think there is a single ¡°right answer¡± to either question but am curious about thoughts and approaches from the community

What are you using for the network router and wifi? Any subnets? We are looking at a new install with 3.0 this week.

Had a fresh install yesterday go haywire for whatever reason.? Couldn't perform any functions but was at least pulling location and displaying information.? Tried to refresh locations and it just completely crapped out.? It says connected, but nothing functions.? I was going to give it 24 hours.? Will also note that the web GUI was functioning just fine, Crestron module, not so much.

Is anyone else having issues with Jandy right now? i have multiple sites that are not working thru Crestron by the iAqualink App is working.. Thanks

Re: Has anybody worked with Epiphan's Pearl2 rest API

I wouldn't recommend it but for doing something that simple it should be manageable. You'd have to build out all the headers, and I'm not sure what it requires to include. I programmed switching the hdmi output, it uses "/displays/D1/settings?source=1" or "/displays/D1/settings?source=2", etc.
?
Play around with postman and see what headers it requires, then try to convert that into a static text string you can spit out of a SIMPL symbol. Also only connect the tcp client when sending (it is a REST api after all).

Re: Crestron Home with Unifi Cameras

Hoping for some direction on issue I am having. I am not looking to have a discussion on telling client to use VPN.
?
Unifi cameras are being managed by the UNIFI NVR. Therefore I seem to have to use the URL generated within Protect for each camera. example: ?rtsp://[NVRIPAddress]:7447/[autokeygeneratedbyprotect]?rtsp_tcp=no
?
I can use the strings notated to have my cameras streams display on touch panels and the CrestronGo app while on the LAN.
?
However, I cannot get the cameras to display in my CrestronGo video object, remotely (over WAN). I have all of my port forwards in place and the URL I use remotely, works in VLC software. However, it never loads in CrestronGo.
?
If I VPN to the site on my phone and use the "local" url, it loads fine. Can you tell me if you did something different (modified URL besides the ipaddress) to get them to display remotely??
?
works locally on touch panels and CrestronGO: ?rtsp://[NVRIPAddress]:7447/[autokeygeneratedbyprotect]?rtsp_tcp=no
works remotely in VLC but fails on CrestronGO: ?rtsp://[WAN address]:7447/[autokeygeneratedbyprotect]?rtsp_tcp=no

My workaround has been to make csig.control_systems_offline_fb the visibility trigger for a "trouble light" button which can then do a baked-in pageflip to the error page when touched... but it's not quite the same.? Small gripe though.? It's clear that Construct has come a long, long way in the last year or two, there's just going to be some re-learning of how to accomplish the same things.? Also gotta watch those DOM nodes.

Might be. I think it was right after a reboot or program restart, IIRC...

Has anybody worked with Epiphan's Pearl2 rest API

Hello,??
?
I was wondering if anybody has worked with a pearl2 and used a TCP/IP client symbol with a SIO to send? HTTP? PUT commands to it to change outputs.? ?I'm sure a Simpl sharp module is the way to go, but I lack the knowledge.? Looks like it can be done without simpl# ,but I can't get the syntax right.? ?I figured out the syntax for just doing it through windows command prompt, but anything I try through debugger and a SIO tells me to piss off basically.? They have a module for it in application market, but it doesn't do a couple of things I would like it to.

Re: Rx to analog?

If the OP just wants a string for display on a UI (rather than needing an analog value suitable for comparison, etc. it can be even easier:

STOA
SMV
ATOS

In the STOA configure it to "match" (01xxh) on the hex values of '@', '0', 'E', 'T' and then extract (0200h) the following 7 bytes as hours_hundreds, hours_tens, hours_units, minutes_tens, minutes_units, seconds_tens, seconds_units.

Run all of those (except, perhaps, the hours hundreds) in order into the ATOS and run the seconds_units to the trig of the SMV. The output of the SMV triggers the ATOS.

For the parameters on the ATOS use "" "" "" : "" : "" "" to insert colons between the hours and minutes and minutes and seconds and a format of 256d (thankfully, even though I've been doing this for 20 years I can't think of a time where anything other than 256d has been useful)

So @ET1234567 would turn into analog values 31h 32h 33h 34h 35h 36h and 37h. with the 37h triggering the SMV.

The SMV in turn triggers the ATOS which then reassembles those as the ASCII string 123:45:67

It is not the coolest or necessarily the most versatile but it does ensure that every possible time value gets reported

You should be able to do this in simpl without too much trouble. Use a stoa and grab the last 7 bytes of the string @0EThhhmmss. You will then send them to equ's then init's and add all the init's together.

Just keep in mind. Using a single time analog will limit you to just over 18 hours. The Denon protocol supports 999 hours.
