Re: TSR-310 - What are the actual best Wi-Fi practices?

We do as CK has listed, although usually we have been using 2.4 just for that extra bit of range- I wouldnt think the speed difference of 5ghz is necessary for these. Along with the newest firmware they seem to work very well that way even with sevaral remotes on the dedicated SSID. The notion of a separate SSID for each remote is ludicrous and I agree that person should get the boot. This type of shit is why I cant stand their tech support sometimes- all the misinformation handed out on a daily basis is insane.?

Off Topic - Extreme Network Access Points

Hi,
?
I am curious does anyone have any experience using Extreme Networks WiFi access points.? ?I am looking to add a WiFi 7 offering and the Extreme Networks the AP5020 on paper looks better than the high end Ruckus and Aruba WiFi 7 offerings.? ?Any feedback good or bad is greatly appreciated.? ?Also, interested if you are working with Extreme Networks what has your support experience been.
?
Thank you
Bryan

Re: TSR-310 - What are the actual best Wi-Fi practices?

Boy, I feel your pain!!!? And I wish it was just the TSRs!....:(
?
Hopefully Dave H will chime in tomorrow, but here's a couple ideas:
- You do not need a separate SSID for each remote - The support person, if he/she actually said this, should be fired.
- Yes, the new FW wants (prefers?) 5g only
- The 'old' best practice was to have a dedicated 5g SSID on each AP (FamilyTSR, MBedTSR, etc.) and lock each remote to just a single AP/SSID. This is still what Crestron would recommend, I think. In this scenario, you could have multiple TSRs connected to the same AP/SSID. They just could not roam, which is the key issue
?
*** Regarding the 3rd point which is still hard to manage, It was suggested that instead we set up a single 'system-wide' 5g SSID say "CrestronTSRs" and then set the Wifi/Network so that specific TSR MAC addresses would be locked to specific APs. i.e. All TSRs are connected to "CrestronTSRs" but the Family TSR can only talk to the Family area AP, MBed TSR only to the MBed Area AP, etc.
NOTE: I have not done this yet, nor have I dug in to understand how it would be done (I'm sure its pretty simple).
?
This would be the best scenario I think as I just had a site that was having battery issues with a couple of key remotes. Moving other unused remotes to these key areas was a B***H because I had them set for specific AP/SSID combos.? And of course this is especially difficult with the TSRs remotely (Site is 7.5 hrs away, round-trip).
Having to just reconfigure the AP/MAC# references would make this MUCH SIMPLER...
?
I look forward to others weighing in also...

TSR-310 - What are the actual best Wi-Fi practices?

I would like to get to the bottom of this debacle once and for all!!!!!!!
So, if someone from True Blue could chime in also, that would be fan-freakin'-tastic.
?
One of my installation team just got off the phone with TB support, and yet again received different "this is how it should be" information.
It seems like every support agent at TB has a different idea of how it should be done!
?
Here's what I think that I know:
  1. TSR-310s with Latest Firmware (I'm talking numerous devices, 10+)
    • Only 1 SSID selected and set as the preferred network.
    • Wireless Band 5GHz selected as the only band allowed in the new band selection tab.
    • No roaming whatsoever.
  2. Access Points
    • Dedicated "remotes" SSID only for TSR-310 use
      • 5GHz band only
      • WPA2 PSK AES only
      • 40 MHz maximum channel bandwidth
      • No fast-roaming support
      • No band steering
The Crestron TB support agent stated that every single remote needs its own unique SSID.
This is completely insane and ridiculous!
So, does that mean that in an installation with 15 TSR-310 remotes (not out of the ordinary), we need to have 15 unique SSIDs just for the remotes?
Crestron Home maximum device support states 24 TSR-310s on a CP4-R ... so, we need 24 unique SSIDs????!!!!!
?
What this means for most large installations with numerous access points managed from a single portal is that they have to be removed from the portal and managed on an individual basis.
For example, AP01 has remotes-01 SSID and remotes-02 SSID, AP02 has remotes-03 SSID, AP03 has remotes-04 SSID and remotes-05 SSID, etc., etc., all the way to remotes-15 SSID.
Access points managed from a single portal are generally limited in the number of unique SSIDs allowed and most are added to all APs in the installation.
Does this mean that we can back-charge Crestron for all of the configuration time for all of the APs with SSIDs and VLANs to set up?
?
Also, if this really is the case, Crestron, where the hell is the document detailing exactly how it "should" be done?
... and it doesn't count if it was once available in some release notes in one firmware release 9 months ago!
... and it doesn't mean this is how it should be done in a lab with one remote and one AP.
How should it be done in the real world with 15 remotes, 10 APs, 5 gateways, a microwave, 5GHz cordless phones, a cell repeater system, grandma's hearing aids, etc.??
You have an NVX switch configuration best practices document that details what is generally needed for IGMP/multicast support, etc.
Where is it for the remotes?
?
We're about to just stop using all Crestron branded touch screen remotes forever.
?
If Ava with the help of any developers could get their new "Cinema Remote" to work with Crestron custom and Home, then it would be all over for TSR-310s.
I've already spoken with their team and given my wish list regarding how it could/should work with Simpl.
It's all about letting us control that beautiful screen with dynamic wheel.
?
Sorry for the rant!
Please help,
Brian

Samsung Frame CEC Volume Commands

Does anyone know CEC commands for volume control on Samsung Frame TVs?

Re: Anyone noticing slowdowns/failures in loading to 4-series processors lately?

I'd like to thank the 4-Series and Toolbox for provide the opportunity to wait more than work.
For giving me ample time to brew and drink coffee in the morning and? to also pull out my hair when that "last minute" change takes forever to get the processor responsive and updated.

Good times...

Re: TV Presets v2.0

That is essentially how the TV Presets Channel Control v1.0 works but I know some Crestron modules can be polluted with over programming. I will try to use Simpl logic over the module to accomplish this. Thanks

Re: TV Presets v2.0

Debugger shows correct data. Channel number and IR Pulses

Re: Resideo / Honeywell WiFi Thermostat

Does it have an API/documentation?

Re: Vogel¡¯s Motorized TV mount IR codes

Edited

Thanks for the reply but they actually have and IP module and it works great. ?One of the best motorized mount I ever used. ?Sleek quiet with preset etc . ?only thing is o don¡¯t think they sell there motorizes mounts in the US. ?i got from out of the country. ?I will give them a call to see if they get the motorized mounts because i plan on using it again.

Re: TV Presets v2.0

Are you sure its the presets module, or could it be your IR driver sending out the double pulses? Do the double pulses show up in debugger coming out of the presets module? We use them on every job and havent seen this behavior.?

Re: BLUE STAR CASSETTE AC IR Learn issue

i tried this all methods and no hex code is given from blue star

Is that IR command a multi-mode code?
?
Do you have the source HEX code anywhere from Blue Star that you can try pasting in as opposed to learning it?

Re: TV Presets v2.0

Are you working in Simpl or CH?
?
I work in Simpl and use a Serial to Analog 16bit, take that analog value and feed it into a keypad decoder 12 module. Some other small logic after that, but the keypad module allows timing adjustments so that it doesn't miss digits (get 35 instead of 355) etc.

Re: Lutron QSX HVAC Module S+ Compile error

Resolved - had an outdated .clz - Jeff at CC flagged it

Re: Vogel¡¯s Motorized TV mount IR codes

Did you try calling their NJ distributor?

TV Presets v2.0

I am using TV Presets Profile Manager v2.0, TV Presets CRPC Interface v2.0 and TV Presets Channel Control v1.0 and when sending out channel numbers to IR Driver I am getting duplicate Numbers on occasion of "0" or previous selections doesnt clear and will send a long channel string.
Ex: I select channel "1002" and get this "10002" or select "1223" and channel doesnt change so I select channel "1103" and get "12231103".
?
Has anyone else experience this?
