Re: updating from Pro2 to Pro3 issue

I'm a little rusty.? Haven't done anything since 2020.? Haven't done any updates since then so I guess that's first. My two goals are to replace the PRO2 in the main house and set up a separate system for a unattached garage with a apartment over for my special needs adult son.? He'll get a full kitchen, bath and laundry.? There'll be 2 flat screens.? One in the bedroom and one in the living room. Only 3 sources for that (Fios, Dune media server and Xbox).? Only things shared with the main house is internet access and access to the NAS? that has about 500 movies stored.? He's not into music so ether sound from the tv's or sound bars.? My kids have never even held a oem remote.? They grew up with Crestron touch screens.? My son that's moving over the garage lives by his iphone and ipad. So I'm thinking Crestron Go for him.? That is something I've never done before.? Something new to learn

Re: updating from Pro2 to Pro3 issue

What you can do is have a console connection in your program and issue a "clear" command periodically.? Or set up a "userprogcmd? clear", trigger a stepper that issues a clear command about a minute later.? Right before you log out, issue the command.

Re: updating from Pro2 to Pro3 issue

cut the led lead, no more msg light. problem solved

Re: updating from Pro2 to Pro3 issue

I reboot won't work. All sorts of stuff gets logged during boot.
I'm thinking something like monitor the log and clearing it upon entries. Or disabling logging all together, might work.

Re: Lutron Smart Bridge Pro Caseta switches and Crestron Home

Mike,
Any reason you don't move the shades to the Ra3 system and eliminate the Caseta all together?

Re: Lutron Smart Bridge Pro Caseta switches and Crestron Home

I thought of that and think that would work for Caseta Lighting. I have a system with a RA3 for lighting and a Caseta system for shades. Before trying two processors, I deleted the RA3 from the current CH system and added the Caseta system. It connected with no problem, and then I was able to add Caseta Rooms to CH Rooms. In the CH configurator, I opened the Lutron properties in the room it does show the shades. However, in the end-user CH IU it only shows scenes and no shades.

Re: updating from Pro2 to Pro3 issue

Any reason to think a hardware reboot from the front panel might work?? I don't recall seeing anything in the front panel user interface.

Re: updating from Pro2 to Pro3 issue

Whew, yeah, these days you just need to let the OCD of the MSG light go.? I think they make that particular light run on a miniscule amount of radioactive dust because it will be on literally forever.

Re: Lutron Smart Bridge Pro Caseta switches and Crestron Home

Mike, have you tried a second home processor? One connecting to the Ra3 and the other Caseta

Re: MacBook M3 question

Long time Crestron/Apple user here.?

the speed and efficiency of the Apple silicon as well as battery life outweighs any of the downsides for me.?

I also carry an intel based mini stick PC in my toolbox for any fringe cases. Just search mini stick pc on Amazon you can get them for $200 or less.?

I¡¯ve run into other non USB issues like pieces of software not supporting windows for ARM. (Shure Designer is/was one of these). Stick PC is a work around for that.?

last added benefit I¡¯ll mention is you can just leave it in the rack to do work and free up your laptop. I.e. you can let it do firmware updates and move on to something else with your laptop. Especially if you are able to use something like TeamViewer.?

Re: updating from Pro2 to Pro3 issue

IIRC, I don't think that you can...
In fact, I remember distinctly that this is the reason why that light is called 'MSG'...It used to be called 'ERR' and it was freaking dealers and clients out so much (even though it was usually a benign message like yours) that they changed the label of the 3-series to 'MSG'!!...:)
the 3/4-series units seem to report everything to the log...I think I remember it registering me blowing my nose once!!...:):):)

Re: Tagging People

Checking the new posts here has become part of my morning routiune- check here, check Labs, check Crestron.com for new firmware, and for me the Lutron and Savant forums new posts. Getting to be an old man and set in my habits...

Re: Tagging People

I do the same thing as Josh mentioned and it works great. Subscribing to a daily digest allows me to see at a glance what's going on in the community at large.
If anything, I get to learn about "problems that I don't even know I'm gonna have yet".
This community is a very important source of knowledge, decades of experience gathered in one place and feels less restrictive than other channels like Discord. I guess I'm just old school.

updating from Pro2 to Pro3 issue

I'm picking away at errors associated with this upgrade.? Nothing wrong with the old Pro2 but I miss having working weather.? Did a factory reset and worked through all the additional security issues that the Pro2 did not require.? After correcting everything, I clear the errors and all looks great.? However, the second I close out Toolbox, I generate a warning and notice that the IP address of this PC that I'm running Toolbox on has disconnected and the MSG led comes back on.

Warning: ConsoleServiceCE.exe #2024-04-05 06:14:52 # SHELL connection being closed from address 192.168.1.22.
Notice: ConsoleServiceCE.exe #2024-04-05 06:15:13 # SHELL Connection from 192.168.1.22

How do I stop this from popping up?

Re: Tagging People

I subscribed to the daily digest, so it's just one email per day. With a quick scan, I can see if there's anything new I should look at, or if any old threads that I've been a part of have new activity. It's not quite what you're asking about, but it works for me and is way better than getting all the emails.

Re: Crestron APP thru VPN on T-Mobile

I might add that many times I do not have issues with VPNs on T-Mobile connecting to my system at home (Yes I still use Mobile G -- if it works why fix it).?? But where I do have issues is:
1) In rural areas.? T-mobile (formally Sprint) has always had good coverage along major roadways and most areas of cities.? But get off the beaten path, you are better off with Verizon and ATT.
2) In high end sections of town with local home owner associations that have blocked putting up cell towers.
3) II very hilly areas where it is hard for cell towers to get good coverage.

Bare in mind that cell companies are constantly upgrading their systems and removing older technologies such as CDMA, 3G, and LTE.? I've had to replace my security system's cell backup 3 times because the services they use have been removed from the cell tower.? I should note that I can see my cell tower at a distance out my front window at home.? For years I had very good cell service at my house.? Then a few years ago during the hype about 5G it become spotty were I had to use WiFi calling.? Now it is good again with the same phone.

Re: Tagging People

I can appreciate that Geoff.? I've just gotten spoiled with being able to tag people and get notified when there is activity on a thread that I participated in.? I appreciate what you and Tony have done here.? If you run across a way to do either of those things and it's not a lot of work, I would appreciate it.? Thanks!

Re: Crestron APP thru VPN on T-Mobile

I can connect to an RMC4 with the Crestron Go app via VPN over a 5G T-Mobile cellular network.? I don't have any Crestron installations that I can test that are not VPN.? However, I did try this yesterday on a Vantage system where I tried to connect remotely to a system where port forwarding was in place and I could not get it to work over a celluar connection but when connected from a remote wifi network, it worked fine.? Definitely something fishy here.

Re: MacBook M3 question

Correct, connecting USB to Crestron in Parallels on an Apple Silicon Mac has never worked and I would not bet money that it ever will.? Crestron has known about this issue for a long time and it is still broken.? Some may say that you could use the UTM hypervisor in place of Parallels but UTM is slow (due to Windows emulation) and not as easy to setup.? If USB connectivity is a requirement then you would need to also carry either a Windows or Linux laptop.? The USB passthrough on all of the Linux hypervisors that I have tested work fine with Crestron.
