Re: Needing Suggestions - Connecting multiple buildings with Crestron
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThe buildings are somewhat irreverent¡ what is the network topology? E.g. are they all on the same VLAN/broadcast domain or does each building (or each floor or each room) a separate VLAN/broadcast domain? ? If they aren¡¯t in the same broadcast domain Autodiscover won¡¯t work, full stop. If they are in the same broadcast domain if you avoid defining DNS servers on the processor using the hostname configured on processor *may* work acceptably relying on Crestron¡¯s mDNS resolver. However, if the IP changes after the hostname is resolved there¡¯s a decent possibility that the processor will need to be rebooted to re-resolve the new IP. If you can have real DNS records (or CNAMES pointing at the hostnames if they insist on revolving hostnames) this would likely have similar results, though I¡¯m not entirely convinced Crestron processors respect DNS TTL expiry (but I¡¯ve been too impatient to wait it out, and likely would still reflect some disruption of service). ? If you can have at least one processor (perhaps in a data center) locked to a static IP Address there are a few options (each of which offends my sensibilities in different and relatively minor ways) ?that would allow the edge processors to ¡®float¡¯ at unknown, perpetually changing, IP addresses. ? -- Lincoln King-Cliby Commercial Market Director ? On a campus with multiple buildings, each building is communicating with each other over an Ethernet ISC symbol but now IT Department is requesting for security purposes to change the IP and Hostname scheme every 2 months. This makes hard coding IP Addresses not possible and not wanting to be onsite every 2 months to make changes. I know I can do an Ethernet Discovery to get current device IP or Hostname but can those be hardcoded into an EISC symbol? |
Re: NVX With Cisco 9300
Another thing to check is the power settings on the ports.? I was having problems with the over utilization of the POE and had to force a couple ports to the MAX POE to keep them from rebooting once a stream started and the device starting really working hard. Re: CrestronGo Remote Access
As Lincoln mentioned, virtually all newer ISPs are using Carrier NAT for their IPv4 address and/or are using IPv6 addresses.? The main reason is probably because real IPv4 addresses are in short supply and those that are available are own by your older telecoms such as Spectrum, Comcast, & ATT.?
Given that, every newer ISP I have interfaced with do offer the option to get a real routeable IPv4 address with no NAT in the middle.? But it comes at a price and typically cost $5 to $25 per month for that option -- more if you want a static IP. Another option is to set up your own cloud openvpn server and use that to relay connection to your Crestron processor.? That is something I don't believe Crestron supports so you will have to some additional hardware on the Crestron side that can create that link. |

Re: CrestronGo Remote Access
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYour provider may not be giving you a true IPv4 WAN address but may be using CGNAT (¡°Carrier Grade¡±, i.e. ISP-level, network address translation) ¨C essentially putting your NAT router behind their NAT router. [See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrier-grade_NAT] ? In these cases port forwarding is basically unusable because they¡¯d essentially have to do the same thing on their routers and that requires effort they likely don¡¯t want to expend for residential accounts.? There has been a standardized approach for this called Port Control Protocol, but at least in the US, the ISP response is more likely to be to tell you to use their business service, and that running a server of any kind (including a Crestron processor to enable CrestronGo is contrary to the residential terms of service). ? If you can see the IPv4 ¡°WAN¡± IP address of the router [using its config page, not a ¡°what is my IP¡± website ?and it either falls within the official CGNAT range (100.64.0.0 to 100.127.255.255) or differs from the IP reported by a ¡°what is my IP¡± site this is likely the cause. ? One potential alternative is to look at a cloud VPS provider, and setup a hairpin VPN, e.g. the site has an ¡®always on¡¯ VPN connection to your server at that cloud provider, and your mobile device either has an always on or ad-hoc VPN connection to the provider and just forwards traffic from A to B. ? Re: DSC PowerSeries Neo
I just downloaded the latest version, and loaded it into my processor. |
CrestronGo Remote Access
I haven¡¯t tried this via cellular access since the previous apps butI cannot get it working.
Ihave set up mycrestron and have added xxx.mycrestron.com as the domain using the text console. I have tried forwarding ports 41796 and 443 on theDraytek router but it will not connect. ?Even if I try to connect on my laptop to system info using xxx.mycrestron.com it will not connect. ?Is there something extra in the Draytek router? ?I have forwarded both TCP and UDP but it will just not connect. I believe it must be a port forwarding issue as even trying the WAN address on the router does not provide a connection. Can someone help with the Draytek settings or let me know where I am going wrong? Thanks |
Re: DSC PowerSeries Neo
DSC NEO module is working now , went back an forth with Crestron about issues and they made updates and last version is working.? The module takes 10 minutes or so before it actually connects.? ?Keypad emulation works good, but I do not think that that the directional navigation and menu buttons work.? I tried them but didn't see anything happen, but the rest works fine.? You can get individual zone feedback with the zone feedback module, you will have to have on module for each zone you are trying to monitor.
