Re: Dali

I¡¯m not a huge fan of DALI, but what you¡¯re describing there isn¡¯t normal - certainly not a characteristic of DALI itself. We have DALI in the office (using Crestron DIN-DALI-2 and the Lutron interface) and there¡¯s no perceptible delay on scene recalls, or staggered changes across groups.

Each ballast can be configured with ramp times - is it possible you have different values set for different ballasts? And lights should be grouped - not controlled individually - that way a single broadcast to a group triggers the change on multiple ballasts. There¡¯s nothing intrinsic to DALI that should mean the change isn¡¯t instant and uniform.

You¡¯ve almost got *me* liking DALI there¡ but I still don¡¯t like it. ;-) I always find the config/changes a PITA. And why do they call it a DALI loop, when it¡¯s not a loop?!

Re: Dali

Dali is awesome there is a one touch driver for controls. There isn't an on / off as such as all dali stuff dims you can ramp it to 100% /254 over zero seconds?

Re: Lutron Homeworks QSX

Had this exact issue and Crestron provided an RMA AV3.? I noticed that that the SN changed its format.? Went from starting with a 1 and having letters to starting with a 2 and no letters.

Re: Dali

What are you using as a gateway for the Dali?? I've recently built my home using Dynalite with a combination of din rail home run dimmers for some rooms and dali for others.? Purely used the dali because there were some large open areas in the house where I wasn't sure how I wanted to group the lights and dali gives me the flexibility to reconfigure circuits dynamically and add new circuits easily.?

One thing I will say is that beware that for home use, where lights are turned on/off quite often, dali is painfully slow.? Press my hall light switch and wait 2s for the lights to come on.? Alot of people turn lights on and think they didn't press the button properly as the light isn't instant and end up pressing the button again, turning the light back off.? There is no getting around the dali lag.?

Also the popcorn effect is somewhat annoying too.? 10 downlights in my hallway, all grouped as one dali circuit.? Turn them on and every light comes on at slightly different times. Fractions of a second but noticeable.?

Ramping lights up and down is very laggy also.? Try to stop ramping when the light level is where you want, release the button and ramping continues for a split second resulting in a higher or lower light level than you actually want.?

If I was doing my lighting again, everything would be home run dimmers and I would limit dali to just feature lighting.

I know this post provides zero information on programming? but thought I would share a few little gotchyas with the dali system.??

Re: NVX RTSP stream

To come back to your RTSP stream on VLC player. The newer NVX boxes produce two different streams. One is the full bandwidth encrypted one that goes to the NVX decoder HDMI output. The second stream Crestron calls "image preview" and refreshes every second or two. This "image preview" stream can be accessed from VLC player or even a Crestron Touchpanel.? For full security it can also be turned off in the web interface of the encoder/decoder.

The statement that NVX doesn't work on Cisco is just false.

Set your scenes in the ballasts and recall them in simpl.

I have not been able to play with DALI yet
But I remember you could set scenes (%).
Trigger a preset scene with (100%).

Samsung Terrace HDBT input

If anyone has used the Terrace HDBT input, would you please verify if there is any control (Ethernet, RS-232, CEC, etc.) function or is it just the picture and sound? ?This is the first time I have contemplated using one on a project and I have been reading manuals and such but there seems to be no info available on the HBDT input.

Looking to replace a damaged Mirage Vision QLED that is connected with Binary HDBT/IR control and I am wondering if I can get rid of the receiver at the TV.

TIA

I work for a University.? We've deployed NVX and other AV over IP devices (thank you Crestron supply chain issues) on the campus network with full support/assistance from our network engineering team.? NVX is not the problem.? Poor relationships within the organization are.? Build those relationships, then build the systems.

Re: Getting other than English text on a touch panel.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

The UC-xx-TEAMS product functionality and access are basically locked down by Microsoft.? The UC engine is really just a compact Windows computer running the Teams application with the touch panel running remote desktop.? Setup is exactly as one would do on their desktop computer, with some additional Crestron related settings.

?

If you are in the Teams app, the way to change languages is through Teams user settings, click on user profile picture (upper right) > settings > general > language.

?

If you have custom pages defined you can manage the language in simpl on your external processor.? There is a ghost of a chance that a ¡°change language¡± packet could be sent to the teams engine, but I am betting the UC engine will not allow that.? I am also betting there is no way of determining which language is in use by Teams, so if you have custom pages there will be a two-step process i.e. change Teams then change custom pages.? Last, but not least, is getting the system to revert to the standard language, almost certainly impossible to automate . . .

?

The Teams team at TB is pretty good, though, so best bet is to check with them.

the requirement is to be able to switch on any page?

Re: Getting other than English text on a touch panel.

I was able to switch between English and Japanese by using Microsoft Translator, pasting those results into?
,pasting the string literal into a MSEND and setting Parameter Coding Type to UTF-16, then convert touch panel to International Theme and set all fonts to "Arial Unicode MS" then assign indirect text from the output of each MSEND to a ABUF and selected language would be the trigger to enable ABUF.
I can send you my example code if you need additional help.

Re: NVX RTSP stream

I am the last person to carry the NVX flag. However, I am an AV person with a strong background in networking.

You¡¯re all correct IMO. NVX is a massive challenge. But if your networking config is correct, it won¡¯t cause issues.

I might add that if you haven¡¯t tried Netgear¡¯s AV Line of switches, go out and watch the YouTube presentation they did a year or two ago. It¡¯s about 1 hour in length. It¡¯s a recording of a Zoom session. There is a Netgear Sales and Netgear Network engineer. They go through an entire demo and presentation. If you¡¯re having trouble finding the right video, it¡¯s the one with a split screen. The Network engineer is in the right pane and he has a strong French accent.

I know it¡¯s Netgear and not what you have in your corporate/Higher Ed closets. But you can put them in for AVoIP closets attached to the rest of the network if you choose. They¡¯ve made the config easy.

Sounds to mee more like school network administration is behind, not you.

Network convergence is not that new anymore that this should be a reason not to integrate VoIP or AoIP into a corporate/school network.

I think it?s more an issue off backwards looking network administration and lack of training¡

Just my 2 cents,

Folks -?

After two decades in higher education, let me weigh in on NVX. Dealing with the NOC (Network Operation Center) at a few Universities, it is apparent that NVX is a non-starter on the school network. The only way to use NVX in Higher Ed is to create a private network with independent AV swithces which defeats the whole purpose of NVX and any input to any output.

I have resisted NVX products for this very reason and will stick to HDBaseT until my dying breath in the AV Industry. I know it sounds backwards but Crestron does not answer to the University NOC - however, I do.

Tell me your thoughts...

Re: NVX RTSP stream

We have several deployments that use NVX on both Cisco SG series switches in smaller systems and Cisco Catalyst switches for bigger clients so the statement NVX does not work on CIso switches is not true.? We did run into an issue once that the internal IT Team had crazy QOS settings that was causing blac screens on the recievers.? Once they removed these settings video started working normally again.

Re: NVX RTSP stream

My first Cisco/NVX deployment had the same issue of the output blanking out and it wasn't until the switches were properly configured that this behavior stopped.
It could also be a bandwidth issue as I experienced on a recently poorly NVX design.

Re: NVX RTSP stream

Thanks, I was in a meeting today and our network group said that:
1- Crestron NVX doesn't work with Cisco
2-the network is set up?correctly and there were no lost packets over the network.?
3- they said they were able to copy/paste the rtsp address into VLC and watch the stream off the decoder?and the video was not blanking out every 8-10 seconds like it was out of the HDMI port on the decoder. I asked a couple times to confirm that they said they were looking at the stream off the decoder and that was the story they were sticking to.

This meeting included the CTO and also one of the "end users" of a new building for Comm Studies that I have designed with some nvx encoders/decoders so we can move content around between classrooms and studios.?
The network group doesn't want NVX in there because they think they will have to manage it and it will take up a lot of their resources.
They have already started planting ideas in people's heads that we shouldn't be using the "new" technology, and now they're trying to convince the techs in charge of the studios that this is unreliable and doesn't work.

Guess I have an uphill battle for the next 1.5 years when we do the install.
