Re: CNX-PAD8A advice: Solved

Edited

Ha, yes Chris well pointed out. This bit me when I fitted a second biPad to my home system also running off a 75w psu. Had me scratching the bald bonce for a while.

I love biPad/Pad8's - oh how I miss the analog days when generally the only things you had to fault find was power and wiring issues. Sigh!

Re: CNX-PAD8A advice: Solved

Good news! Glad you solved it...

Just an FYI since we all are using things like Pad8's alot more than we thought we would...:)
The Pad8A/BiPad8 units draw 10 and 20 watts/Cresnet respectively, but what I learned early on and is not well/properly documented is that when the units power up, they draw aprox. DOUBLE that due to them firing/testing their relays simultaneously...
Even when you're careful to do power calc's, this can be missed. Thus, a system with two Pad8A and other things on a 75 PS for example can draw an add'l 20w (30-40w for the BiPads! IIRC) during a PS restart.? After a number of starts like this, the Pads *can* go south from being starved...
?I've always de-rate my calc's by 25%, esp with any Pads.?

Re: AUTH and SSL on 3 Series

Systems with remote access are typically the ones that require AUTH+SSL most. Less of a concern if the user's mobile device is utilizing a secure VPN to their network, but when the system was set up with port forward/mapping AUTH+SSL and secure ports are absolutely needed to prevent DOS attacks and rogue connections.

If "Mobile" means the legacy "Crestron Mobile (Pro) (G)" app, then FW v1.503 with AUTH ON & SSL ON (with legacy SSLv3 fallback enabled) is needed for secure MobileProG connections (FW rollback requires syntax "PUF FileName.puf -ALL").??

Otherwise, even if Force Auth Mode is enabled (due to CA-SB327 compliance needed w/ newer 3-Ser & x60 FW and newer 4-Ser & x70 device models), you can still disable SSL in most cases. This essentially leaves you with a password protected processor that still accepts only nonsecure device connections. Though that typically isn't necessary (except with some legacy stuff like MobileProG) since SECUREGATEWAYMODE DEFAULT allows both CIP & SCIP (I typically harden this to only accept secure connections, at least from WAN when I'm using SCIP from Crestron Go/App).??

Early versions of the CNX-PAD8A firmware had an issue with losing their firmware.? The net result was the unit was dead except maybe for the power or NET LED (I don't remember which).? Newer versions of firmware corrected that issue although I remember that it was tricky to restore.? In particular, you had to use Viewport? to restore firmware.? Toolbox would not work to restore the firmware.? Also be sure to look at the release notes for v1.08 firmware for special instructions on how to do the update.? Give it time to start updating as it will appear that viewport is not updating firmware.

Keep an eye out for our 1G updates we are revealing at CEDIA next week, you'll like some of the new updates!

Re: CNX-PAD8A advice: Solved

It was the PAD8A. I suddenly remembered that it is supposed to flash all the rooms leds at power up and it was no longer doing that, just solid power & net even when directly hooked up to the PSU. I got a fleabay replacement and it all works again. This could be a red herring however the first thing that went bad was the fuse in the cnpws-75 so maybe something in the PAD8A suddenly drew too much current? I may open it up to see if there is anything obvious. Thanks again for your help and suggestions.

Re: Which TStats to use??

+1 for the AprilAire stats. ?Wifi is needlessly weird to setup but they are very solid once in service. ?There is even a Home module for the 3 guys that got their Home processors in the last 2 years :)

Re: CNX-PAD8A advice

For what it¡¯s worth you may also want to focus on that 75w power supply. ?I distinctly remember back in the day that those had a very definite lifespan. ?As they got older they somehow got ¡®dirtier¡¯ or less stable and though they appeared to be working fine many a wonky Cresnet issue was resolved by replacing it. ?I have about a dozen PAD8 and PAD8-A. ?Lemme know if you need one.

You¡¯re ?right, it doesn¡¯t help in any way¡

The system has 10 instances of Mobile. ?Two of which are used to access the system remotely from out of state.

I know this doesn¡¯t help in any way - but I¡¯m curious as to why you have to have auth disabled in your install?

I have a 2 x CP4-R that I can sell used. 1 used for my test bench and the other recently removed from a project?

Re: AUTH and SSL on 3 Series

Though I'm sure that someone else will answer your actual question, its these kinds of things (Rigmarole) that have led me to just pro-actively authorize all processors now...
Eventually I'd be forced to and them I have to go back and update all the Crestron App devices with the Auth, and probably deal with secondary devices needing cred to talk to the procs as well...:(:(:(

As I always say:
"Well Mr. Client, we've completed all the useless/semi-useless digital-age rigmarole for your system to be secure (and green?!?! HaHa), unfortunately we no longer have time (or budget) to make the system actually work! sorry...have a nice day..."

Your so right Tony (and Chris),
I posted without any effort, and figured being lazy wasn't right, so I deleted my post and actually did a little foot work. I found that trane topic, and the notes.? It is straight forward, and it does connect as it should (now I guess).?
Getting them (2) to look, and function, the same as the other (5) CHV-TSTats is a different story.? I'm surprised that the "Calls" status isn't easily shown. But hey, the temp goes up and down - what more do you need.

Re: AUTH and SSL on 3 Series

Ok, so the first thing I did to the new unit when received from eBay was to do an init/restore/betacleanup on it. ?It had a fairly newish FW that required AUTH. ?I immediately loaded a 1.5x FW and disabled AUTH and SSL. ?So far so good. ?I then loaded the 1.8x FW to match the old unit and right off the bat it was asking me to create an account and ?AUTH and SSL were set to on. ?I spent the next several hours trying different versions and had no luck. ?Are you saying to load a pre AUTH FW, turn everything off and then do an Init/restore on that old version before updating to current? ?Does anyone have any insight on this process? ?It takes FOREVER to randomly load and test different topologies hoping it will work. ?I appreciate the help.

Re: "The context MasterIPTable is not known for this device"

I have this message on all DMPS3s since around 1-2 months, I just ignore it but I don't know why it's there. Everything seems to work fine anyways

Re: AUTH and SSL on 3 Series

I have never done it with a CP3N, but I know on NVX if you need to revert back to previous security requirement you load the previous firmware to the unit then perform a restore. If you just revert the firmware back the security requirements stay in place, but if you do a restore after it will remove the requirement to whatever that firmware had by default. Might be worth a shot to try.

Re: Carrier Infinity Touch TStats

Are these not the same as the Infinity Touch that have had the RS-232 modules on the App Market for years??

I did a job somewhat recently that had them and these old modules worked fine. Unless I'm missing something here?
