Re: LG RS-232 Pinout

I have a different TV (LG OLED C8), but these are notes I took when I hooked it up:

? DB9 Pin 3 to 3.5mm Tip

? DB9 Pin 2 to 3.5mm Ring

? DB9 Pin 5 to 3.5mm Sleeve

Also check out:

Maybe you find this helpful.

Re: Insteon Lighting Control

I have my CP3 talk to an ISY through REST commands. This allows me to control Insteon devices and scenes. I am also able to get some status feedback via query commands. Not very pretty, but it works sufficiently well in my modest setup.

Insteon Lighting Control

I am having a hell of a time trying to control some insteon lights. I attempted to use the lighting and thermostat module in the files section but it does not seem to compile in a 3 series program.

Is there a better way to control Insteon lights with Crestron. I? have read that some people use the Hub or an ICY but have not seen any modules.?

Re: Just posted Insteon lighting & thermostat control modules that I developed

Hello, I have tried this module on a CP3N and it does not compile. There is an error on Line 86 of the module. I am guessing its a bit of cone that is not compatible with a 3 series processor. Has anyone gotten this to work on a 3 Series? Also is there a better way for Crestron to control Insteon Lights thru Crestron? Using a Hub or ICY maybe?

Re: Smart Labs Insteon Lighting

Hello, I am interested if anyone has gotten this to work? I have a project with a bunch of Insteon dimmers to control.

LG RS-232 Pinout

Hi everyone,

We are installing an LG display ( 86UH5E ) with RS-232 control through the 4-pin TRS connector.

Does anyone know which connections on the display are TX, RX and Ground?

Thanks,

-andy

Re: DIN-AP3 D3 Program and C2N Keypads Amuck

We had something similar recently and it all devices would show up fine but I noticed an intermittent flood of update requests from a certain Cresnet ID. We swapped the keypad and our troubles went away. There was another job too where we had odd errors pointing to single ID for a shade. That one ended up being the wire got compromised somehow (finished house maybe something settled and was nicking the wire) but resolving that fixed that site.

Also check to see they havent gone too far over the 20 device limit per Cresnet segment.?

The biggest difference (except for the group address count) is that You need a KNX guy every time You need to make a change on CI-KNX. This unit needs to be programmed on KNX side (ETS software). If this is not a problem, from my experience, CI-KNX is not less stable than CGEIB-IP.

Ugh…. So close but just not quite ? -- several 12V options and a Lenovo 20V option that I could probably hack a new end onto and would probably work but nothing @ 24V

Appreciate the offer but hate to raid your basement stock – I know how valuable having those on hand can be when one hits the “4 years, I’m done” threshold. I’ve bodged something together that isn’t pretty (see: bodge) but working for now and unless someone else has ?looks like I can Amazon a couple with prime for less than the metro fare – though always great to put faces to names.

Re: LG Refrigerator Module

After doing some searching it looks like this might be a starting point

though I'm not seeing much for a refrigerator.? I also checked and LG doesn't support a refrigerator through the IFTTT service, only clothes washers and dryers.? That isn't a good sign for finding the functionality you described below that you want.

If you know Python, which I don't, then this might be useful though it looks like it might only support air conditioners.

Hope this helps

That’s where the documentation in the owner’s manual about the API gets a little vague.

?

Biggest thing I think I’ll do is a vacation mode to cut energy consumption because (when the world is operating normally) I travel enough that it would be nice that for that to kick in ‘automatically’ when I put my house enters “long away” mode* and return to normal when the house is in “normal”.

?

I’m not sure if I’d implement it but you can also tell it you’re going to use more ice than normal which I might tie to activating when the house is in Party Mode

?

It can generate an alarm if the door is open for longer than X minutes which seems like a not awful thing to tie to some other logic

?

Other interesting options that don’t really apply to me but could be useful to people in different situations are control of “Sabbath Mode” (have the Crestron system put the refrigerator into/out of that mode automatically based on calendaring rather than making the user do it manually) and Smart Grid/Demand Response control where the refrigerator will delay things that require more electricity (making ice, defrosting, etc.) during peek demand times or for areas with TOU/RTP/VPP/CPP ?metering when costs are the highest… for homes with generators or battery backup, I could also see forcing this mode when utility power isn’t available to reduce/control the load on the emergency power system.

?

*= My house, via the Crestron ecosystem, has essentially four states – Normal (energy usage managed but not to the point of inconvenience), Short Away (slightly more aggressive energy management and some time to “recover” to normal), Long Away (heavy energy management, significantly longer recovery to normal), or Party (“screw energy management we’re going to have some fun” otherwise known as “don’t scare the guests by allowing too many things to turn on and off automatically” )

How long are the runs?

?

It’s not officially supported because in the old days people did stupid things which wound up underpowering devices and best case causing odd behavior/worst case damaged product. (I can’t remember if its officially as “warranty void if you do this” or just “please, for the love of your deity/ies, please don’t do this) but horizon keypad power requirements are low enough if each one is home run as a practical matter unless they’re very long runs probably will be ok.

?

Use one pair for data, other pairs for power/ground. Don’t double up the data or split data across multiple pairs. Any runs that can be replaced wt

?

In my house I have a number of Cresnet RJ45s (all Orange for the AV CNET; a couple places also have Yellow for the Lighting CNET) – I used real Cresnet cable to the back of the jack with just a short whip of CAT to punch on the jack and the pinout I used assuming 568B – for compatibility with the old ST devices with RJ-11s on them – was

?

White/Orange, Orange/White, and White/Green = +24V

Blue/White = Y

White/Blue = Z

Green/White, White/Brown, and Brown/White = GND

So looking at the front of the jack you get

?

24 24 24 Y Z G G G

This way a ST-something’s RJ-12 can be plugged directly in just ignoring the outside 24+G pins but there’s some extra current carrying capacity for anything I need a custom whip for.

Out of curiosity,? what exactly can you do with the api?? Always wondered what the point of it was??

Re: Retrofit wiring Cat5?

I agree with Steve. I would definitely prefer real Cresnet, but in your situation I wouldn't hesitate to use the CAT, esp. with Keypads.
I did a retro project 12+ years ago where I had (10) TPS-6L panels with only (1) cat5e at each. I used Cat-to-Terminal adapters for the connections on both sides and it has worked flawlessly since then. We're in the process of upgrading the system to TSW panels so we'll now convert the CAT back to network connections!!

***? Because Category cables are not intended, with their small solid core conductors, to be stripped, twisted and screwed down upon (maybe this is why some have issues), I HIGHLY recommend RJ45 to Terminal strip adapters.
This is a bit of a pain, but it's definitely much better than re-wiring in some retro projects...
Here's an example of one that I've used:
