Re: Preference for Mini PC for "jump" box
If there are concerns about externals being able to connect to the network 24x7, it?s common practice that you have to request IT to open up the tunnel for a limited amount of time. That can become quite cumbersome because some IT dep. want to have some amout (even days) of lead time for such a request, but better than nothing. In addition, you can narrow down the vpn access to just the few box/subnets you need access to.

I¡¯ve been following this conversation and I usually install a rack mounted pc in my residential systems however costs don¡¯t always allow this . I am Interested In this mikrotik box . Is this a plug in box that I can use for a vpn ? That will bypass all router configuration. What is the model as I can¡¯t find anything on their website Regards Bruce On 2 Feb 2020, at 17:50, Martin Szmulewicz via Groups.Io <crestron.uruguay@...> wrote: |
Re: Macbook and Dropbox
I run Parallels with the files in folders on the Mac side (shared folders). I use GoodSync to do a one-way an auto sync to Dropbox. In this manner my colleagues and I can share through DropBox without the risk of accidentally changing / erasing a file on another machine. Also, keeping the files on the Mac side, rather than in the Windows drive, means that they are individually backed up by TimeMachine, rather than within a virtual drive. Make life so much easier in the event of drive corruption etc.

Re: Preference for Mini PC for "jump" box
The vpn would allow me to connect to any device in the network as if my computer was wired to the same network switch.
I do not have to open any ports, set up any dynamic ip, etc. I have to change nothing on the clients network but plug in my mikrotik box. If the question is why i need this? Well, remote upgrades with small changes, support and troubleshooting, etc. |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI have been using OneDrive (also wastefully) inside Parallels on a Mac for a few years now and it hasn¡¯t missed a beat. Re: Party Mode for Swamp
Sorry if this is a bit too basic but I greatly benefited from this advise years ago and hope it will help others...
I haven't seen the Sample Program, but generally I would scrap it and start fresh. My experience with Crestron Sample programs are that they provide a good way to see various features and understand *Some* of the logic to controlling devices, BUT trying to cut/paste this into a real system generally has major unintended consequences!! The fundamental Swamp control is quite basic. All you need for basic control of each Zone are two analog sugnal Inputs - Source and Volume...? (Sonnex Tool can adjust most of the settings - Turn on volume, Min/Max levels, etc.) Selecting a source value (1-24) and '0' for no source turns the Zone off Volume is a plain 0%-100% (0-65535) so you can control this with something as simple as a ramp symbol.? I have a Volume/Mute module that I built that manages the Mute by ducking the Analog and then restoring it, but you could use the Mute On/Off digital inputs as well. My point is that I've found it generally helpful to tear things down to their basic elements, get those working as you need it, and then add the necessary items incrementally. *** FTR, we do a lot of programmatic control of the Swamp, but it came from building things up. Starting with the example program can be at best, daunting, and at worse a cluster of logic fighting against itself!!...:) For Party mode, if you start with the basics above, though it could become very sophisticated you could just start with hard INIT'd values that are passed to each zone via Analog buffers after being enabled with a 'GO' trigger or something like that. I.E. INIT to hard-code the Source and Voume settings for each Zone in Party Mode TOGGLE to enable/disable each zone for Party AND the Party GO trigger with the TOGGLE output Output of the AND enables the ABUFFER with Source and Volume settings for each zone Once that works to your liking, you could then get more sophisticated with how each Zone's source and volume get set for Party mode. Follow a specific zone's setting, manually set each zones settings in real-time on a TP and then GO, etc. etc. HTH and is not too basic... |
Re: Preference for Mini PC for "jump" box
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWhy wouldn¡¯t you use a VPN? ? The vast majority of my projects don¡¯t have any form or permanent remote connectivity for various reasons but the handful of large projects where the end user (vs. integrator) is our customer I have client-issued / administered VPN access and it¡¯s glorious ¨C direct access to any of the hundreds or thousands of AV endpoints (Crestron, Biamp, Ross, ¡) , access to in-room monitoring cameras so we can see if the room is in use/vacant/what the room is actually doing rather than ¡°it¡¯s broken¡± ? But the best part is because the VPN accounts are adminned by IT Security *±õ¡¯³¾* not punching a hole in their defenses, if something gets screwed up in the configuration and allows undesirable activity to occur, it¡¯s not my fault. They have complete visibility into what¡¯s going on/what¡¯s being accessed and can react accordingly rather than trying to backdoor something unsanctioned through their defenses. ? -- Lincoln King-Cliby, CTS, DMC-E-4K/T/D ? Macbook and Dropbox
I finally broke down and installed Parallels for my Macbook since the battery life and touchpad performance was so bad in Boot Camp.? It looks like I have the option to share my Dropbox files from the MacOS side.? Is it ok for me to delete dropbox in Windows altogether and then just suspend Dropbox in MacOS when I want to compile?
Thanks! Steve |

Hm, well, to get secure network access?

If you put the AXIS companion app on a small PC (NUC etc.) put companion in grid mode feed that into an STRXTX-100. The STRX can feed the TSW the multi camera grid then invisible buttons on grid quadrants to switch to the main streams gives you what you want. I struggled to find a companion recorder that has hdmi out that you can control the view over the network or that would have been the way to go. |

Re: DGE-2 Won't Detect Local Touchpanel Automatically
I've been looking for a solution to this for awhile.? I want to perform a SYSINStall to reset the embedded windows partition to a factory default.? I need a CSY file to do this.? The DGE2 says the following: "You must have the following to perform this function:- CSY update file in a supported mass storage device (ex. PCMCIA or USB CF Adapter)- A mouse or keyboard (Touchscreen will not be active in this mode)This will overwrite all data on the system drive and some user settings.Overwritten settings include administrator password.?
