Re: Move to Pyng?
Question for Chris or anybody that knows: Does Pyng consider every load on a panelized lighting system a "device", or just the modules? So in other words if you have 2 full panels with 8 full DIM8 modules would it be 16 devices, or 128 devices against the 250 limit?
---In Crestron@..., <chris.noland@...> wrote : All,? ? Some notes on my PYNG first try. ? I decided to jump into a Pyng system to try and upgrade my system¡ 6 hours in and I feel I am about 50% done.?? There is a fair amount of ¡°devices¡± with 94 showing, which with a limit of 250 they should be able to get a lot bigger but either I am really slow (good possibility) or the system has some problems.? ? ¡¤???????? D3 vs Pyng everything is a scene, I realized very rarely do I have a load go on at 100% (typically 80%) or do I only want one load to go on with a button press. ?The scene creation is on another screen and would have to go to the area then go back to the button you wanted to press ¡¤???????? Doesn¡¯t support multi press / taps ¨C important where we want to do things where 1 tap does X and 2 taps does Y.? ?(Fan control is one use case) ¡¤???????? Status lights on switches act differently.? If you have a switch that top is on and bottom if off both lights maybe on ¡¤???????? Moving from D3 to Pyng is fairly hard if you use panel lighting.? All of the modules show up to learn into the system with the serial number which I have not have found a printout in the documentation options that actually shows the serial numbers.? If Crestron would add a PYNG documentation template to D3 I think it could have made this step a lot less painful.? Considering it is still necessary to design a panel in d3 to get the loads correctly and have documentation for the electrician I don¡¯t see how this would ever go away (unless studio does is) ¡¤???????? Adding key pads with panel lighting is just as painful as they show up with serial number but no documentation exists to print.? For both the modules and keypads I had D3 and Pyng open so I could step through the serial numbers and find them ¡¤???????? Scheduled events are only days of the week and not a calendar.? Currently to do something like putting shades down the sun hit a room I create 2-3 events that split the year into 3 as using only sunset as a guide does not correct for the sun position so an area may get sun early vs sunset in the summer vs winter.?? I use this often so if there is a better way to solve this problem I would be interested to learn from others.? ? My overall thoughts are this would be ok for a customer that has never had experience with lighting control as it could be an easy way to get something in but I would not use it for panel lights and would limit to only a few dozen lighting loads.? I think the scene / load control needs to evolve before I would really want to use often.?? I was really interested in trying to get some of the other components integrated to see how it performed and get some experience with it before I sold it¡but my environment maybe just too complex and I am going to try and get a friendly user to make a minimal investment to see how it works on a daily basis. L? ? If I have missed some critical things in my integration that would have made this easier, please share your experiences as I could always try this again (when I have time again). ? Thanks ? Re: Apple TV 4 IP Control
Some good points Trey, I
personally would pay the 50 bucks in a heartbeat to have this working
and not be using (because its not wasting) other's or my own time
getting something to work just to not pay for it. As a one who supports
both verbally and financially companies like Control Works, etc., I
believe time and knowledge have value. ?Not just my own, but also that
of my peers. ?This group is not only a great resource but also a good
place to listen to & voice ideas that the rest of the world could
care less about.
I guess I want it all...
some
great sources to pay for what we don't have the either the time,
imagination or experience to create, AND some like minded peeps to share
ideas with without cost or obligation.
Glad you all are here!

We all only hope someday to be as good as you Trey. Hopefully you won't move on from us and take away all your incredible knowledge.?
In the meantime I'll keep using IR as for 99.99999999999999999999999999% of most customers it's just fine AND we're not overcharging for a module that they don't need.? |

Re: Filezilla to a TP
Filezilla can connect to touch screens on the control subnet if you set up port mapping on the processor. In one room I connect to 4 different touch screens on the control subnet with the following config:
external port: 8021 - 8024 internal port: 21 use host names for IP Address/Hostname entry |

Aren't those items always locked down when you get onsite... ...relicensing what? ?You can change to any AppleTV2-4 as long as you use the same AppleID used for Home Sharing as when purchased, same AirPlay name as the purchase. ?The password can change as long you update the module and recompile.? Starting to feel like Remote Central on this thread, instead high-end Crestron programming discussion on how to take our next-level clientele to the next level of control of products that already come with a remote and free app, while using each other's experiences and knowledge to keep the Crestron client experience elevated above all others, so we can charge a premium for our services.?And $50-60 depending on exchange rate, are you not charging to program based upon equipment, end user experience, and most importantly something different than the other guy? Building interactive GUIs with feedback? ?Those are rhetorical questions judging by the comments here that were not 2-series related. Personally for me, supporting companies who's ownership allows employees to comment and help here during working hours, is a huge asset that is free to us, but not free to them so yes I buy Control Works, Pantech, Jay's, Neil's, Heath's, and Ultamation modules; cause they win awards in this industry, they do the most in depth control solutions, I want our company associated with "those" type Crestron programmers cause this is our lively hood and they make my company better and they help out when/if the Swirl cannot. ? So if I/we don't support these guys then our Crestron portion of this industry will turn into "anybody" can do it it's easy type of clientele, like the other control options are practicing.
