As others have said John great to see that you are taking notice and taking the time to reply.
My main complaint with the Core 3 stuff is lack of training, We live on the other side of the planet so I don't know if you guys have specific training for Core 3 in the US. Our sales guys here love selling new stuff....TSW 1050 and 750's being their favourite... So it leaves us to carry on regardless of our opinions, On starting my first Core 3 a while ago I rang up our support here in Oz and was told to watch the videos on the website as that was all there was, it helped a little but no way explained the nuances of switching from the old VT Pro. So again its doing stuff self taught so you really don't know if you are really doing it the correct or quickest way
My 2c
Cheers Jon

Look, we can't do everything and we can't do it all immediately. And yes, inertia sometimes comes into play. The bottom line is that Fred and I do very much care what you have to say and please don't stop telling us what you want and need.
In a lot of cases of course, everyone wants something different and so "make a product that is this" sorts of comments are good but of course will take the longest to gel. In other cases, there may be infrastructure shifts that we've made (and in some cases those shifts are still looking years down the road) and so the request is backtracking from the bigger picture.
We have made a lot of changes in engineering over the last year to improve quality and change some of the direction - but it takes months and months for those efforts to show up at your doorstep.
To address a few things that I've seen recently...
- I lost track of who updated the splash screens in the software but I thought that was classic. I am sorry that it was done out of frustration but thanks for giving me a chuckle.
- No engineering resources were harmed in updating the icons. Frankly, I was surprised as you were to see them changed. That doesn't go through Architecture review!
- Rebooting the TSW nightly is a stopgap. Creating an embedded product these days is much more complicated than it was years ago and has all sorts of operating system and supplier nuances (and legalities on source code, etc). But we have been actively pursuing solutions for some time now. I am a frustrated as you are that we are still doing this.
- Crestron Studio - well, I think the answer is that it isn't ready for anybody on this forum. I'll be honest, my team doesn't use it either. But as someone pointed out, if we don't get the feedback from everyone here it will never be what you want. But, the database thing has been well discussed and there is agreement that what is there is not appropriate for what many of you are doing. So, there will be changes. But not soon enough - that nasty priority thing again. The immediate goal it to improve upon on the program generation aspects of the system to allow more automatic system generation. I wouldn't call it System Builder but maybe System Builder re-imagined, where logic is generated but not untouchable, and customizations and mix and match code really work. Probably not of any interest to this group, but we need it in the market as a whole.
- Meanwhile, we have been investing heavily in SIMPL Windows and VTPro. For example, SIMPL Windows is going to be getting the automatic CED File management that it so very sorely needs.
- And for those about to jump on why do we even have CED files, I do have a skunk works project to try and produce at least a flat view dpad and number pad. Haven't quite figured out the best way to release it yet.
So, while we don't necessarily share back what we've heard and what we are doing about it, we do listen and it does cause change. Probably not as fast as you want it and probably not everything you want but don't stop sharing.
I want Crestron to be the best that it can be. And to do that we need the continued support of all of you. You all are a big part of what Crestron has become and I need you to continue to do that. I know its frustrating at times. As I lie awake at 3am staring at the ceiling I think about these things too! But I think together we can continue to make strives and be a mutual success.
I will see many of you at CEDIA so that you can complain in person! And I think most of you know how to get it touch with me one way or another so feel free.

Hi Group! I'm new in the Crestron universe. I have to reprogram a system with two PMC2. Currently the processors are working independently, but I want to make them work interconnected. How can I do this? If I use XSIG and UDP, I will be able to send commands from one processor to the other using the existing ethernet?
Thanks in advance!

I think the Carrier Infinity modules have been a problem for a long time. Or should I say, the Carrier Infinity control boards.
Here's a thread from a couple years ago where I was able to capture some erroneous serial strings coming off the integration panel. You might try to duplicate these results, if possible. I gave up on it at the time.
And another thread that didn't really go anywhere, but explains the real problem with the modules is that they aren't handling the NAK responses correctly.

Hi, I'm using the Carrier Infinity module from Crestron (v2), and I'm having one heck of a time with it. I thought I'd reach out to this group for ideas. Fundamental problem: The module works for a while, then stops querying the HVAC system for information. This can happen in a few hours after boot, or as long as a few days. But eventually, it happens. The obvious result is that displayed data becomes stale. When this occurs, if I do something to change the state of the system (put a zone in HOLD mode, say), then the module will start communicating again. Until it stops again at some later time. Things I have tried to resolve this: 1. First occurred on PRO2. Upgraded to PRO3, no change. 2. Modified code to run in separate "slot" of PRO3 (as a separate program). No change. 3. Put the code on a QM-RMC running older (v3) firmware. No change. 4. Went to Carrier to report the problem, they said Crestron supports the module.
Worked with Crestron. This is ongoing, no solution (yet). I did get a BETA version (v2.3, not on the WWW site yet), but this occurs as well. I believe Crestron verified that they can replicate the problem, but there is no solution as of yet. I did recently upgrade to the Infinity Touch control, which (presumably) allows me to use the Crestron Infinity Touch module (although, with the same SAM board, the old module works perfectly). I can try that if folks are having better luck with that. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks so much! /Jeff

CommandFusion and AMX's TPControl both work that way -- free app, unlock code tied to the device's unique ID goes in the project information to unlock full functionality. I think TPControl also allows licensing to a specific AMX processor. Lots of free apps require a paid account to unlock full mobile functionality (Spotify, Evernote) There's a precedent for it.

Could be worse. AMX is over $700 PER DEVICE because they use a

a license from YOU. That is a lot tougher to explain but is still WAY cheaper than buying an AMX/Crestron touch panel.

Re: My display can beat up your display
A 4k would be nice but out of my shallow pocket price range. :-(
I can't complain though since my laptop that I rarely use is a 17" 1920x1200 and my desktop has a 27" @ 2560x1440 and a 30" @ 2560x1600. Nothing like seeing a 1920x1080 page fullsize in VTPro and having a "lot" of symbols open in Simpl at the same time :-)

3rd party alternative to Crestron Fiber
We have a project where we are running Fiber approx. 500ft, most of it through conduit for Crestron Sonnex applications and network. Not being used for DM yet, but want to insure it's to spec if it ever happens. I don't trust the conduit being used to stay completely dry. Over time some water could leak into it. Therefore we aren't comfortable using the Crestron Fiber which isn't designed for trenched conduit applications.
The other issue is Crestron brand only comes in 4 strand and our conduit space is limited. I want to have at least 8-12 strands in there for future use, and running 3 of them, even if it was waterproof won't leave enough room for other needs.
So I have been looking for a 12 strand weatherproof bulk fiber option and having a hell of a time. To be sure, there is a ton of it out there. But as soon as I send them the spec on Crestron's Fiber (including the tested to 1550nm rating), all of these re-sellers disappear and I can't get a response.
Does anyone on here successfully use a brand and type for DM applications that is outdoor/waterproof and 8-12 strand in the same spec as Crestron's Fiber? I am looking for a solution and having a hard time finding someone that can provide what we need.
I also considered as a last resort, of running an indoor variety inside of an armored waterproof jacket inside the conduit. Unfortunately that takes up a ton of space again, much more than a bare wire would. Not to mention pulling a 3/4" fat jacket through a 2" conduit would be entertaining and not leave much room.
Any direction or recommendations would be appreciated. Anyone here use 12 strand outdoor fiber for DM with great success? Thanks!

Well, I've done some preliminary tests and it doesn't seems to work, I tested the IR signals with a flasher and everything works ok, but not with the TRS plug. Tomorrow I'll try rewiring of the TRS plug to see if that helps.

Re: Problems with Carrier Infinity Module
I noticed that if I didn't poll the system constantly and only polled for status when a user pressed the hvac button (which was the poll status trigger), it has worked flawlessly in two larger installs that I did. I made a screen pop up that told the user to wait until the poll was complete - about 7 - 10 seconds. If you are putting a 1 on the poll enable I'd bet that's causing the failure. The module didn't seem to hold up for constant accurate feedback if left high at all times.

/Jeff

I'm disappointed with my 1920x1080 17" laptop and 1920x1200 24" monitor and am looking for a 2560x1600 30" for a decent price ...
I'm doing TSW-1050s as we speak and I can barely see all my tools at 1920x1080 :(

I'm not hurting for real estate - main display is a nice 1920x1080 unit, and I have a 1680x1050 to plug in and extend to when I need it. (And yes, I've had VTPro stretched across both a few times)
Unfortunately the problem has nothing to do with available screen space...

I've only needed to do this a few times but I switched my monitor configuration from multiple desktops to stretch the first monitor across the second so VTPro takes up both screens and then I had the real estate to open up all the pages I wanted at the same time.
I dont know if all video cards support stretch but it was a function of windows so maybe its more dependant on the version of windows. Im pretty sure I did it on windows xp and 7 tho.

Yeah, the snapshot/image editor bit is how I've been rolling. :/ It's "kinda" close?

Not that it really helps, but what I typically do is open Project #1, expand out the project tree, and use SnagIt to capture the (scrolling) workspace window... I then print it out and run down it with a highlighter.
Or if you want to be green open it in your favorite image editor and run the eraser across each line.

Anyone else wish you could launch two instances of VTPro? I have two projects where I want to A/B the list of subpages and subpage references, and the Workspace window just doesn't help...
