Re: DMP XR500 Alarm Panel

Hey Dean (this is a bit wierd ;)

I'm working on a project with an XR500 also ... I downloaded and
disected the Crestron XR200 module but I also get in touch with DMP
before I got near the site to see what they had to say.

They commented that the Crestron (XR200) module didn't work (I didn't
get any more detail about that) but they were happy to send (courier)
me a copy of thier protocol - after I signed an non-disclosure
agreement (so I can't help you at all with the protocol - sorry).

I've now been on-site with the security guy a few times trying to
figure stuff out and it's been interesting ... unfortunately, I find
all too often that other equipment installers/programmers consider RS-
232 as it's own protocol (I assume that's because they've only ever
been exposed to their own product so the term RS-232 to them is
simply "the" way to communicate with the outside world) so they just
expect that, once you're "connected" (which is another story
altogether), you're just "talking". In my case, I had to do the
research for them 'cause otherwise it wasn't going to happen - they
wanted to use the 232 port on the mainboard and told me that they
couldn't accommodate me - I researched it and found a "462N" card
that allows 232 communications also (tried Ethernet but couldn't
establish comm's - perhaps with more time ...).

So, now I'm finally "connected" and can put the protocol into
action ... I haven't read the whole thing yet (it's a bit of a novel -
like this post ;) ... whenever I "have a connection" to the panel
(which involves the security guy establishing a path to the port), it
spits out something over and over until it times out and then sends
an alarm (communication trouble) to the security panels and the
monitoring station ... I'm sure I just have to read more and figure
out the correct "ack" to send back but I haven't gotten that far - so
everytime I want to test something, I need him on-site and he has to
clear/re-establish every time I test.

There's a lot of information on DMP's website re: the product and
actually programming it but not the 232 protocol.

That's all I can tell you for now, Dean, sorry about the length but
perhaps at least one part might help you out :)

:Dean (I'll be the Dean with the happy face "D"!)

Hi Dean,
If the 500 is anything like the 200 - Run away...Run Away...

Search posts with = DMP XR200
for more details...

Has anyone integrated the DMP XR500 alarm panel with a Crestron
control
system? If so did you use the DMP XR200 module posted on the
Crestron
Integration Partner web site? I can't seem to find an RS232
interface
option on the DMP web site. I am also interested in your
experience
and
opinion on this panel. Thanks.
