TSTATs are powered by the furnace wiring between the R and C. It isn't
necessarily the contact rating. My guess it is the limitation of the
voltage you can apply to the R terminals and not torch the tstat.
If you stay below Crestron's voltage guidelines (AC or DC), you should
be fine.
