Trane furnaces (XL10) use 24v ac without any problems to the thermostat.
Relay descriptions are slightly tricky as a 12v relay refers to the
coil voltage when the contacts are closed.
Some general purpose relays I use during the day have 115v AC limits
before there is an arc across the contacts. If you're using DC, they
lower the rating to 28v DC.
