Re: VTProE and sending all files, or just changes to touchpanels

Jeremy Weatherford

In my experience, it all depends on what happens to the VTZ file (or
ZIP file). If you have the VTP file without the VTZ file, VTPro will
rebuild it from scratch, and then send the whole panel from scratch.
If you move the VTP and VTZ files together (or rename them together,
or e-mail them together, etc.), then when you compile your changes,
VTPro will update the existing VTZ, and the resulting panel will work
with "Send Modified Files Only". If you want to rename or create a
new version of a panel, use VTPro's File/Save As... rather than
renaming the VTP file. (or rename the VTP and VTZ identically)

With that said, I've still seen it decide randomly to send everything,
but this works most of the time for me.

I know this has been discussed a bit before but I'm now confused by a
response I got from Crestron. I'm specifically thinking about cresnet
panels, as they consume so much time to send. My experience is that if
you move files around on your hard drive so the complete file path of
the .vtz is not the same as was last used to send to the panel, it
decides it has to send everything again. There was also a VTProE
version that came out some time last year, that had to resend
everything again the first time you sent a file from the newer
version. There are several other things that seem to cause it to
resend everything.

So imagine my surprise when I was sent this from True Blue:

Sending changed files is not directory specific. It is file specific.
It only compares the files in the ZIP file against the time/date/name
of the file. Please provide additional information as to why your
specific case is not working. Please include the version of VT-Pro,
Toolbox, Information to get from TOOLBOX etc etc.

Can anyone explain more fully what causes VTProE to resend everything?

Thanks in advance
