the TSRs are of course capable of roaming. I think Crestron position and their 'best practices' that I spelled out above are there to keep us out of potential trouble.
with EX devices, they are connected to a dedicated GW, presumably within close proximity.
With Wifi, and a general SSID on all APs, there is a possibility that the remote (just like our mobile devices) would jump to a further gateway and degrade the performance.
This would be particularly bad if you pressed Volume_UP and then the remote felt the need to try to migrate to the other AP, missing the release...
I'm sure that I'm the only one who has experienced this kind of issue we generations of remotes over the years...:)
I have had pretty good/stable performance with applying the best practices. of course, you want to make sure that your network/wifi is totally dialed.

The primary reason that I would want to move a remote, is if the family room got 'eaten' by the dog, and we needed to move the seldom-used GBed remote to the family room to keep them going.? Roaming is not really a feature that I think should be sold with a remote control.?
However, Crestron needs to provide a better way to remotely change the Wifi connectivity settings (especially via VPN). I don't think that there's a way to 'virtually' add a new SSID/PW, and THEN delete/Forget the old SSID/PW.? I know that there's sort of a way to do this, but I don't trust it...
