Its a much more useful concept for more cookie-cutter systems that are the same except for the model numbers of some devices changing. I do this if needed, but still tend to skip the CCD and use specific drivers for a standard one off system. The CCD concept is good but the implementation has some definite drawbacks that steer me away from it on a day to day basis.
