1. Who designed these things?? clearly no one who has installed them or had to take one off its base to service it!!!
Seriously!! We were already planning to use retro back-boxes but I can't imagine mounting these with sheet-rock anchors-The first time an HVAC guy tries to remove it on a Saturday when he's trouble-shooting a No-Heat call from the client he would rip out half the wall!!!? I'm mean, is Crestron really concerned that a 'press-fit' mounting like the old CHV units would not hold this thing on??
NOTE: Though I found no info in the manuals (Ha!) and tech support had no idea as to the *Best Practice* for removing one after it is LOCKED onto its sub-base, we did figure out that if you put a tweeker at a 45 degree angle into the slots at the bottom right corner, you can use this to leverage on the back plate to pull that corner of the stat off its detent. then the tweeker can be used to pop off another detent and the unit comes off...Like I said, the uninitiated will be damaging something I'm sure....
Could not agree more.? Please have the engineer who did the industrial design retrofit 10 of these in a project and wire 5 of them with a 2 stage heat, 2 stage cool, with floor warming and a remote temp sensor and then ask him if he thinks he designed an installer friendly piece of hardware.
--Mounting options--
FAIL - base plate mounting holes too close to the margin of the drywall opening
Self drilling drywall anchors
Mollys
Plastic anchors
Toggles
MAYBERetro ring with wings - stat slightly proud of the wall depending on the make of the ring
Retro Carlon box with wings - have to "dado" the drywall paper and some plaster to get the stat to sit flush on the wall
WORKSSG LV ring mounted horizontally
SG 4-square plaster ring mounted horizontally
Carlon SC100A (my favorite) -?
