I have been using a Surface Pro 3 as my main computer since August of 2014 and I absolutely LOVE it. In fact I replaced all our company's ?MacBooks/MacBook Pros and iPad's with the SP3. We are using i7, 512GB, 8G SP3's all with Win10.
As far as portability goes, I keep an extra dock, KB and mouse in my field bag so when I have to run out to visit a site I just grab my SP3 from it's dock on my desk, toss it in my bag and I am good to go.?We keep all our Crestron programming files on OneDrive so the program files are accessibly anywhere.?
As far as programming goes I have not had any issues running any of the Crestron software. In fact, about a month ago, I installed Deal and used my old CNXIR IR Learner without any issues.
Aside from Crestron programming is actual business use. Using the pen and DrawBoard, we are having clients sign contracts, invoices, etc right on the spot and then immediately emailing the client their copy. In addition we also carry a wireless display adapter, where we just plug it into any HDMI port on a display and do a presentation from our SP3. In fact our clients have been so impressed with that one feature we have had requests to add them as sources on DM and HD-MD installs. One button press and the client can connect not only their Surface's but any device that supports Miracast to the display.
As far as switching from an all Apple/Mac shop to an all MS/Windows shop has been an easy transition. In fact we are able to do more with the Surface than with Apple. Some of my friends were quick to put the SP3 down when we first started the switch saying "there are no apps" "the MS app market is sparse" or "it's to big for a tablet". The last one was before the iPad Pro came out.?
As we used the SP3 more and more, we came to find out we did not need the app store, as much as iPad users do, because the SP3, as well as all the current MS Surface devices, run full programs. Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, Office365, etc.
As you can see, I quite happy with the switch. I have not regretted it for a min.
