Lonnnnnng time ago I took that module and stripped it down to two versions - one that *just* does power and polling for same, and another that does power and volume - been much happier since then...
If I need to switch inputs, I usually look at the particular display's commands (since there's no consistency <eyeroll>) and stuff that into an SIO...
