Re: DM Private Mode Pros/Cons

There are really no meaningful disadvantages to PNM, IMO. Especially with the DMPS, if you take them out of PNM [assuming static addressing] you go from requiring two consecutive IP addresses to requiring a block of something like 21 consecutive IP addresses where only 6 of those would ever actually be used.

?

PNM or not, using DM tool to configure a TX or RMC is pretty transparent.

Anything plugged into the courtesy port on a TX/RMC is on the same network as the LAN port on the DM chassis.

?

When I have control over IP space I personally prefer to have things ¡°packed¡± in the smallest IP space possible e.g. Room 1 is 192.168.1.11-12, Room 2 is 192.168.1.13-14 etc. ?because it makes finding ¡°empty¡± addresses easier in the future (& I¡¯ve gotten used to having clients with IP constrained networks ¨C you wouldn¡¯t believe how hard it is to find two consecutive and available IP addresses in some places)

?

University install typically means Fusion (RoomView) and/or XPanel is highly desired, so your best bet is to get IP address assignments from the campus IT overloards so you can ensure that even if they aren¡¯t connected to the campus network Day 1, in three weeks when they realize they want that you don¡¯t have to go through and change everything. Especially if you want to be able to manage rooms simultaneously without having to build your own ¡°shadow network¡± between rooms.

Hi all,

?

I am gearing up for a university install of about 30 rooms. Each will have a DMPS-300-C. I know these use two IP addresses and that Crestron recommends PNM. What are the disadvantages of PNM other than having to go through the switcher to manage Tx's and Rx's??

?

I assume that if I use the LAN port on an endpoint (for a Projector), it connects to the same network that the DM switcher card is on, and not behind the NAT?

?

Does anyone find using different subnets for each room useful? For example:

192.168.11.xx for Room 1

192.168.12.xx for Room 2 etc.

This way, I can say that every DMPS-300-C is 192.168.xx.5 and so on.?

?

The classrooms are not connected to each other from an AV standpoint. But, I would like to be able to manage all of them simultaneously.?

?

Any other pointers?
