It's ideal to have them both using Ethernet ports. The AV2 doesn't come with one out of the box. You can get either the C2ENET-1 or C2ENET-2 cards for it.
I've only dealt with the Rack2 once, but I know it doesn't have one out of the box either. On the web page Crestron shows the Rack2 with a CNXEN-2 Ethernet card in it here

If you have these cards in your systems you can either do Ethernet Intersystem communications or you can program one of them and in the system configuration you can add a Ethernet Remote Processing module for the appropriate system you want to slave to the master. In the later case you can make either one of them run the code.
