I haven't tried the DGE-2's annotation yet, but the UPX-2 had the option to save annotation files to either USB or network shares.? Pretty sure it had an undo, but maybe not.
I hope the DGE-2 has the ability to save files - 'cos we have a couple of UPX-2 systems slated for "upgrades" to them.
("upgrade" meaning that the touch display and/or UPX-2 are no longer current products and *have* to be replaced when they break)? :(

Am I missing something with Crestron Annotation engines (i.e. DVPHD, DGE-2) or are they really this rinky dink in their feature sets? I mean, no "Undo." No ability to save output. Pretty much, just pen width, color, and clear all. It seems to me the Boeckler Pointmaker is way more feature rich for a way less money.
I am usually embarassed when i program these systems up and hand them over to the end user during training. Its feels like a long series of "Sorry, it cant do that."

All of the "display only" annotation solutions I've seen (Including something from Smart, but I'm not sure of the specific part #) have actually been "touchscreen that talks to the PC via USB and the PC generates the annotated video output"
In other words the loop out of the display is more "convenience" than actual video output... this means, of course, that you can only annotate over the (typically "built-in" or "room") computer and not over "any arbitrary source" -- and you can only annotate when a user is logged in and the driver/interface software is actually running.
Depending on the application that may be of no consequence but it is a very important limitation to consider.
For "annotate over anything" AFAIK, the only solution is a "real" annotation processor and (a) touchscreen(s) -- the Extron Annotator and Crestron DVPHD(-GB) have both proven themselves.

Subject: [Crestron] OT: Digital Annotation Devices
Hi all,
I am looking what is out there for Digital Annotation units that have annotation processing built into a touchscreen. For example, the SMART SP500 series is 18-24" I think and you send a PC or video signal in and annotated signal comes out. The only other things I am familiar with are annotation processors which cost more since you need annotation processor AND the touchscreen.
Anything else out there? This would be hooked directly to a PC and not a roundtripped signal in/out of a switcher, but that could be possible.
