We generally go static. Our work is primarily residential and in a lot of
the cases we are handling the network as part of the install. On the
occasions where the client has a separate network company we request a block
of X addresses (where X equals the number of static addresses plus 10 that
we need). We set up or request that the customer have DHCP set up to allow
for 100 to 150 addresses. That should more than cover anything they would
ever add to the network and keeps us from having IP conflicts, so far
anyway.

Subject: [Crestron] Crestron Hardware - Static addressing or DHCP via Mac
address?
Does anyone have any compelling reasons to use one over the other?
I think a good case can be made in either direction but wanted to know what
everyone else was using as a process and also if you have been burned by
using one method over the other. Thanks.
