Hi all,

Just a reminder of Coastside Freecycle's few simple rules:

1) KEEP IT FREE & KEEP IT LEGAL FOR ALL AGES. This means, for example, no pornography, alcohol, tobacco, firearms or other weapons, prescription drugs, prescription medical devices, or illegal drugs. It also means no car seats that have been involved in an accident, and no recalled products; see http://www.recalls.gov to check. No barters. No advertising your yard sale or your business either, as this involves money. Please check your automatic email signature to make sure your business is not advertised.

2) SUBJECT LINE OF YOUR POSTS. Please use these phrases to make it easy for others to review the many messages from this group.?

OFFER: Thingy + your town
TAKEN: Thingy + your town
WANTED: Gizmo + your town, optionally
RECEIVED: Gizmo + your town, optionally
CURB ALERT: + your address+town

Note: Curb alerts are for garage sale leftovers or many free items that you leave in your drive for people to pick through. Please DO NOT list specific items in this type of posting, or show a photo of them. You may include a general description such as "furniture, baby items, books."

Please don't use NEEDED, ISO, PENDING, PPU, FREE or PROMISED.

For a WANTED post, it usually makes sense to note, in the body of the message, how far you are willing to go to pick up the item you're asking for.

It makes things less confusing in TAKEN messages if you do NOT include the text and photos from your OFFER message.

3) OFFERS vs. CURB ALERTS

Please do not post an OFFER with an address and wording such as "located at the bottom of my drive - first come first serve...." or anything similar. Offering to the general membership like this may result in many disappointed people who drive past your house and find the item gone. Please take calls and/or email from individuals and award your offering to a single responder, or post a CURB ALERT following the instructions above.

4) Please do not post the same WANTED posting more than once a week. Please do not post the same OFFER more than every 3 days (except in cases where a pickup falls through after a TAKEN message was posted). And please do not post the same thing repeatedly, week after week, even if it falls within these general guidelines.

5) ?OFFERING MULTIPLE ITEMS: When you have multiple things to offer, please try to post no more than 3-5 offers/day. Please combine items when it¡¯s reasonable, in consideration of members who don¡¯t want their mailboxes flooded with messages. Consider combining especially when:

  • ? ? You have a lot of closely related items?(Examples: OFFER: kitchen items, OFFER: tools, OFFER: baby items)
  • ? ? You have unrelated items but can fit a good description into a fairly short subject line?(Example: OFFER: yoga mat, staple gun, toaster oven)

It¡¯s also fine to combine a large number of unrelated items and NOT list them all in the subject line (Example: OFFER: magnet, mug, other misc. items) ¡ª but these messages may get less attention, so this may not be your best option.

Also: Please limit WANTED posts to no more than 3-5/day, for similar reasons.

6) NO POLITICS, NO SPAM, NO PERSONAL ATTACKS/RUDENESS, NO PROSELYTIZING/RELIGION.?

7) ANIMAL/PET POSTS: Please, no posts looking to find new homes for pets or other animals.?

8) PICKING THINGS UP: If you have agreed to take an OFFERED item and then change your mind or can't pick it up, please let the owner know so it can be re-offered. Also, please be very careful when doing a pick-up to only take the items that you were told were yours, and not something sitting out for someone else.

9) DESCRIPTIONS: Please be sure to fairly describe the condition of any items you are offering. If there are defects, either minor or more severe, let people know - in words, in a photo, or both.?

10) LOCATION INFORMATION: If you¡¯re offering small-dollar-value items, consider indicating (in the body of your message) what part of your city you are in: back of the valley in Pacifica, top of the hill in El Granada, south end of HMB, etc. This will help people decide if it¡¯s worth the drive to come get your items.?

11) If you're replying to an OFFER, please be sure to reply to just the person making the offer; don't "reply all."

12) PHOTOS: Please use one of these file formats: ?.jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif. It seems as though groups.io does not handle .heic files (an Apple file format) in the photos section.
