Air China A359 B-1081 (240) was our first newcomer, arriving early this morning from Shanghai. Also making its debut was KLM Cityhopper E190 PH-EXD (19000661). This was an Amsterdam to LCY diversion & the first of the carrier’s Embraer fleet to appear here. Making its first visit this evening was Norwegian Air B738 SE-RRG (39165/3507 ex LN-DYG) from Gothenburg.

The TUI A/L Belgium B763 today & the B738 yesterday were both in connection with this evening’s Champions League match between Chelsea & Ajax.

*Austrian A/L A320 OE-LZF (5841 ex PR-ONT, N680AC) arrived at Vienna today on delivery from Cecil Field.

*CityJet. End of the road for the RJ85s?

Despite the article above stating that just two RJ85s are active, three were operational today between Dublin & LCY.

The carrier purchased 27 RJ85s that had been operating for Northwest Airlink from Mesaba A/L & they were delivered between 2007 & 2008. They never operated scheduled services to Gatwick, but 16 of them still visited us. With the type’s days numbered with CityJet, here is what I think is the current rundown:

*FlyBe. Adding to yesterday, E170 G-FBJG (17000344) is to be painted all white & will then return to Exeter for hand back checks.

*Jet2 B733QC G-GDFE (24131/1541) was ferried from Leeds/Bradford to Kemble today for scrapping.

*Loganair AT75 GLMRZ (570 ex EC-HEI, CX-LFL, OY-YAN, EC-MLF, OY-YAN) was registered yesterday. The owner is shown on GINFO as Blue Islands, but this is just temporary while Loganair pilots undertake some crew training & the aircraft moves onto the Loganair AOC.

*Neos B738 I-NEOS (32733/1078) was ferried from Shannon to Milan/Malpensa on 3/11 after painting for Sun Country & is to become N838SY.

*Norwegian B38M LN-BKF (63971/7168) was reregistered SE-RYC yesterday.

*Play is a proposed Icelandic start-up LCC that intends to operate A321s to Europe:

*SmartLynx Estonia A320 ES-SAO (0936) was ferried from Keflavik to St Athan yesterday (for maintenance, or for storage, or for scrapping?).

*TUI A/W B752 G-OOBG (29942/867) was cancelled yesterday & now has N205SA allocated. As expected, B738 G-TAWM (37249/4360) was reregistered C-GQWM yesterday. It is thought that B752 G-BYAW? (27234/663) is interesting the RAF (yes, the Royal Air Force!). Last July, the RAF stated the following:

“The RAF have announced that they have awarded a contract to Leonardo to provide a large-body test aircraft as part of the Team Tempest initiative. Team Tempest is a co-funded partnership between the RAF’s Rapid Capabilities Office and UK Industry (BAE Systems, Leonardo UK, MBDA UK and Rolls-Royce).

The demonstrator will take the form of a modified Boeing 757, which will be used to conduct airborne technology testing of sensor and system integration for the future. It is expected to come into service in early 2020s. The aircraft will be used both to enable more rapid development of future capabilities, but also provide support for currently in-service combat aircraft such as the world-beating F35 Lightning jets and the upgraded Typhoon.”

GATWICK ROUTE NEWS

*Air Transat. Adding to my posting on 30/10, the carrier is suspending its planned three times weekly service from Calgary from next summer.

*FlyEgypt. The carrier’s final flight from Hurghada will be on 13/12, after which the service will be flown by Enter Air.
