VISITORS

Morning newcomers were SmartLynx Malta A320 9H-SLA (0973 ex F-GRSI, SP-IAC, EI-EYH, XY-AGO) operating the morning Air Baltic service from Riga & recently registered easyJet Switzerland A320 HB-JXQ (8263 ex G-EZRV) from Geneva. Having gone tech for the outbound flight last week & been substituted by a SmartLynx A321, Maleth-Aero B733 9H-ZAK (24678/1853 ex G-IGOA, 9M-AAY, OY-JTD, G-CKTH) made its debut this afternoon from Seville & departed to Stansted. This evening featured a first visit from a second recently reregistered easyJet A320, with the appearance of easyJet Europe example OE-ICD (7104 ex G-EZPI) from Lyon. Unusually, not one of the above was a new airframe for Gatwick.

Unsurprisingly, Dave Long was on hand to catch the two Maltese newcomers &, for good measure, also caught a shot of the TUI A/L Belgium B738:

For some reason, classic B737s have been finding favour on the Maltese register in recent years. Mostly, these are used on ad-hoc charters & some probably have received a VIP fit. During the past five years, 13 have appeared at Gatwick & the visit of the Maleth-Aero machine today gives me a reason to list them below:

The scrapman at St Athan is going to be very busy for the next few weeks, with no less that six airliners arriving at the airfield today for the chop

*Air Europa has been sold to IAG:

*Air Mauritius. As expected, A343 3B-NAU (076) made the short journey from Cardiff to St Athan this morning for scrapping.

*British A/W A319 G-EUOI (1606) was ferried from LHR to St Athan today for scrapping (last revenue service was on 2/11 from Geneva to LHR).

*easyJet A319 G-EZEG (2181) was ferried from Gatwick to St Athan today for scrapping. Its final revenue service was yesterday from Hamburg to Gatwick & it is the first Airbus that the carrier has disposed of for scrap.

*FlyBe E170 G-FBJG (17000344) was ferried from Birmingham to Bournemouth today for painting for a new operator.

*Gulf Air A332 A9C-KC (286) was ferried from Bahrain to St Athan today for scrapping.

*SAS. Two more aircraft arriving at St Athan today for the man with the axe were B736s LN-RGK (28313/447) from Oslo & LN-RRO (28288/49) from Stockholm/Arlanda.

*Transavia B738 PH-HXN (63623/7347) left Amsterdam on 1/11 for Belo Horizonte on winter lease to Gol Linhas Aereas & is to become PR-GZR.

*TUI A/L Belgium B738 OO-JAH (37260/3688) was noted at Norwich today after painting for Miami Air & is to become N735MA.

*TUI A/W B738 G-TAWV (41662/5340) is to ferry from Manchester to Montreal/Trudeau tomorrow for winter lease to Sunwing A/L.
