Viewing on 23
April was from the inside of the domestic terminal, which has plenty of windows
and unrestricted views of the two parallel runways. The international terminal
is off to the left, and the cargo sheds, GA and Vietnam Airlines¡¯ hangars to
the right. The occupants of the ramps to the right are obscured. I think photography
is technically forbidden here ¨C all airports are run by the military ¨C but judging
by the conduct of the locals and evidence available on various photo sites, the
rule (like many others in Vietnam) appears not to be enforced.
?
There are a
good 20 or so aircraft stored here, mostly A320neos and A350s out of service because
of engine issues. I only managed to identify a handful of them (most are in the
Vietnam Airlines maintenance area): Vietnam Airlines A20Ns VN-A506 and VN-A510
are by the main road adjacent to the international terminal; A21N VN-A622 is on
the maintenance ramp (identified while taxying in on 19 April); and Vietjet A21N
VN-A529 is on the far side of the airport, next to the disused military
shelters. An old Pacific Airlines A320 is also parked in this area. B722 XU-RKJ continues
to rot at the end of the runway, while IL18 VN-B196 is at the back of the Vietnam
Airlines maintenance ramp.
