Messages deleted after 2 days.

开云体育

Hi,

I don't know if it was because of the last update I did (6.0.22.70), but all my messages are being deleted automatically after 2 days. ?

All my previous messages with more than 6 months disappeared.

Did you deliberately change BID Lifetime to 0? Messages can't be kept once their BID is deleted.

No. Didn’t change the BID lifetime, only the Lifetime (Days) a few months ago.

?

To fix this, if I want to kept messages for such a long time, should the BID have the same value as I have in the Lifetime (Days) area?

Yes, the bid lifetime must be at least as long as your longest message saving time.

John, what about the message number. I get at least 35 bulletins a day. So in a year there will be more than 10,000.? But the max message number is 10,000.? Does the message number just start over? What will happen to the duplicate message numbers?

The maximum number is 99999. If you ever get that many I suspect the BBS will stop, as it will be unable to create new messages.

Although in theory you can keep bids for ever, that will also cause problems with duplicates when the message number wraps back to 1, even if you don't ever have more that 99999 messages at once.

I wonder if the image will be in the [email protected] message?

I was referring to his image where he has Max message number set to 10,000.

When Max. Messages have been reached yes the messages are renumbered starting with 1 the BID
remains the same to prevent duplicate messages.

Mike, we misunderstand each other.? The original post shows the following:

Bulletins keep for 365 days? (that is > 12000 messages)
Max Message Number 10,000

How can he expect to keep 12,000 messages on his system when the Max message Number is 10,000?

Will messages then be deleted or will BPQ attempt to duplicate message numbers and crash or what?? It just seems to me that Max Message Number must also be greater than the maximum expected number of message that will be on the system at one time.? And in his case that will be greater than 12,000.

Hi Mark
?
Sorry about the misunderstanding, I am not sure what will happen in that case, seems to me
I had similar setting Max messages lower then number of day before renumbering I think
Mail Server either crashed or gave me an error, it was some time a go so I just don’t remember
what happened.
Sorry I can’t give you a better answer.

It is a good point to raise. Max Message Number defines the point at which Housekeeping renumbers messages, starting from 1. It is not actually a hard limit, and the BBS won't crash. However it could cause BID clashes, which is definitely undesirable.
