What if the other end of the RF circuit is _not_ using BPQ32/LinBPQ at all?

Yes,
Normally one station sends XID command, the other responds with XID response, then the usual SABM (C C P) is sent.

If the other end is running a reasonably up to date version of linbpq it should always respond to XID with something.
Do you have a packet trace showing the XID arriving?
Thanks, John

At the moment I am unsure about the actual version of Direwolf the club station runs. (It shall be 1.7 or so as I recall.)
And yes, the frame is actually being transmitted to the air every few seconds, while the other end (YT7MPB-1) does not reply to it. Seems as if the other end is incapable to react i.e. does not understand what to do. I mean no response from the other end.

If you were running Direwolf in AGW mode I could understand it processing the XID but as it is in KISS mode it should just pass it through. Is the frame actually being sent? If so it could be that Direwolf is simply reporting what it sees as errors in the XID as it monitors it. I believe the Direwolf implementation of 2.2 is flawed as it expects extended addressing to be offered.

Re: 16:58:37T YU7BPQ>YT7MPB-1 Port=3 <XID C P> 2=21 3=22a486 RX Paclen=256 RX Window=7
At this stage, I did not see that the other end (YT7MPB-1) replies with anything. Btw, the other end does not run Direwolf. There is a TNC2 in KISS mode. (It also ran an older version of linbpq, and I just upgraded it to .71 as well but to no avail.)

If so it could be that Direwolf is simply reporting what it sees as errors in the XID as it monitors it. I believe the Direwolf implementation of 2.2 is flawed as it expects extended addressing to be offered.

BPQ now tries to use ax.25 v2.2 for Node to Node links, so it sends an XID to negotiate that. I expect the other end to either reply with an XID response either accepting or rejecting the settings I offer, or reject with either FRMR or DM.

I would put IN in TraceCalls. Then in the digipeated packet IN2 will
be replaced by your call so people can see which stations the packet
passed through .

Seems that my HF ports are pretty well for now. But there is a new issue that I got with my VHF port running Direwolf:
My BPQ node (YU7BPQ) communicated well with my home test node (YT7MPB-1) when I ran .065 version. When I upgraded to the .71 version, I noticed this strange behavior:

The above I see in the QtTerm window, every 5 second another line comes.
The Direwolf itself was not changed. But it started showing this:

Re: Bad config record RADIO=1
John, Thank you! As soon as I made the config the way you suggested, the error msg from the Subject disappeared. The boot process shows now: Initialising Port 01 Telnet Server Initialising Port 02 SCS Pactor /dev/ttyUSB1 Initialising Port 03 TCPKISS IP 127.0.0.1 Port 8001 Chan A Initialising Port 04 UZ7HO Host 127.0.0.1 Port 8000 Chan A Initialising Port 05 UZ7HO Host 127.0.0.1 Port 8000 Chan B Initialising Port 06 KAM Pactor /dev/ttyUSB3 Interestingly, I did not have that error msg with older versions. It makes me wonder why it appeared with the .71 version. Anyway, it seems ok now. PS: At this stage I did not change syntax of RADIO=1 lines that other folks suggested because it works for me as is. Shall I do that? Misko YT7MPB On 5/27/25 22:45, John G8BPQ via groups.io wrote: Misco,

Re: Bad config record RADIO=1
Remove the ¡°=¡° sign
ie
radio = 1 change to
radio 1
?
and as been pointed out, place the radio 1 line after the address line.

Well if you just want to play around i am trying to get a udp to work too¡.. but no partners.
You can try ve3pkg.dyndns.org on port 10093
I think i still have something wrong in my setup as i do not see my system listening on 10093 when i do a netstat.
