Re: linbpq64 forwarding problems personal messages.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hi Niels,

Just normal, when that message goes out and it uses the exact route as configured as it is the only configured route to that destination.
Another message with the same destination, exact same address, never goes in the queue. Message exchange between BPQ and
FBB side of the Netrom link is:? FF? in the end. (No, message to send). I have to go over that trace again.
Also all the best for 2025 en een prettige jaarwisseling!

Hi Bod,

I don't know the answer, but I'm curious what the route trace looks like in the BBS log. Of a message that does get into the queue and of a message that doesn't get into the queue.

All the best in 2025

The problem is that personal messages to the same destination are not always forwarded. One is forwarded and the other not and
all have exactly the address. I tried several version of linbpq64, from those released in August to the last one of December with
the same negative result. The effected message is not always put in the queue ready to be forwarded with the next forwarding cycle.
I can only force it by putting it in the queue (yellow) for that particular forwarding partner and in that case it is delivered. With other
words, they are not always put in the queue. Remember, they have all the same destination address. What is causing this behaviour?

Re: Ping/Poll possibility?

Not quite the same as a specific ping / poll but...

Decades ago a bunch of us with PK232's used what AEA called the "QRA Feature" which was on by default but could be disabled. If on and an unproto packet to destination QRA was received the PK232 would respond within 1 to 16 seconds by sending an unproto to ID. Some TAPR's also did this but none of the KPC's I've owned did.

The upside was knowing whether a particular station was "online" or within range given where the HF path was at the time. The downside was it could busy the frequency briefly if there were multiple stations trying to send an ID response.

Many of us with active nodes or simple MBX using PK232's back then would leave the QRA feature enabled as an indication that the node / MBX was up and available. Those that mostly did k2k would disable the QRA feature and at their discretion would manually send an unproto ID response as an indication that they were at the keyboard and available for a k2k session.

Again not quite the functionality of a ping / poll but I would think it not too difficult to script up a BPQ application to do something similar using standard connect vs unproto and something like QSL? rather than QRA <shrug>...

It sounds like you are sending a broadcast, but you want all of your local nodes to be included. Normally I do that by setting the MINQUAL=254 in the port.? If it is set to 255, I believe that will result in sending only the main node as you are seeing. Normally if I want to send a nodes broadcast on VHF, I set the quality to something lower than my internet/AXIP port such as 160. That's a personal preference, however.

Re: Ping/Poll possibility?

Being able to broadcast a ping sounds useful to me, if its not already a thing.

With a bit of scripting you could configure a radio and TNC to scan channels / modes to find reachable nodes fairly quickly.

The node does not seem to like the BROADCAST statement in the port definition!

I get an error at node startup indicating "Source record not recognized: BROADCAST NODES"

In one of the other two messages of the same topic you mentioned an error that says he is not defined as a node and then disconnected.
When I looked at your routes it did not list VE2YAG as a route. In the other topic you said he was in your routes list.
Then I looked at your ports and it looks like you have each of your connections, and several others, each having their own port.
