Re: Hierarchical routing not working
Post some images of the routing for a BBS you think should get USA bulletins.
?
Looks like you have 2 AXIP connections.? It will not send back to the station that you received it from... lets see the routing for the other station.
And the User as well....

?
Sometimes all it takes is a typo... in this case it might be something from the changelog going to .42

Hierarchical routing not working
Good evening,
I've noticed that ever since upgrading to version 6.0.24.42, routing for bulletins addressed to @USA aren't being routed. Re: APRSDIGI igates every UI frame?
Ok, thanks John. I guess if APRS-IS deem it a problem, they can find the source software through APXXXX. Cheers Tom On Sun, 22 Sep 2024 at 16:44, John G8BPQ via <john.wiseman=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: APRSDIGI igates every UI frame?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýUnfortunately there isn't really a defined APRS TO address. Most use APXXXX with the last 4 chars identifying the software used to send the frames, but the MIC-E format has what look like random characters in the TO call. This is one of the rather unfortunate features of APRS.? The only safe way I could find was to treat any UI frame on an IGate input frequency as a potential APRS frame and send to APRS-IS. The IS server will flan any it does not know how to process.73, John ? On 22/09/2024 15:28, Tom M0LTE wrote:

APRSDIGI igates every UI frame?
Hi John/all
?
I have set up a receive-only igate port on my BPQ node (GB7RDG), with the sole purpose of forwarding APRS-formatted frames (position, telemetry) from a remote station (M0LTE-2, non-BPQ) to APRS-IS
?
Right now, I have that remote station beaconing minutely - a UI frame from M0LTE-2 to IDENT. It is not related to APRS.
?
The BPQ igate is, however, hearing those minutely beacons and forwarding them to APRS-IS (as viewed here on aprs.fi's raw frame view):

The two "Theale test" rows in black are one-off test beacons I did send, in APRS format, to callsign "APRS", deliberately.
?
I don't want BPQ to blindly forward all UI frames to APRS-IS- is there a way to filter it to only igate frames destined for, say, APRS, or WIDE1-1, or whatever the recommended path is nowadays?
?
Thanks

?
In the old days Bulletins were the way to send them. Perhaps some BBS programs sill do. That should no longer be the case. In BPQ WP updates should be sent as P type messages.
?
If you only send WP messages to your forwarding partners, and send them as P type messages then BPQ will process them and silently kill them.
Address WP destinations as WP @ call and do not include the full HA
As a backup measure be sure every forwarding partner has their call in the AT CALLS of their forwarding record.
Set your node to reject B type messages.
?
You still see P type WP messages being forwarded around looking for the destination...
This problem occurs mostly today when a BBS loses a forwarding partner and the WP message will pick up the HA from their WP and send it pursuant to the existing forwarding rules at the time.? That results in multiple hops and it my never find a destination, if that user has ceased operating a BBS.? Good operating practices are, when losing a forwarding partner, you not only remove the MAP line, but also remove the user or at least uncheck that he is a BBS, AND remove the WP destination entry for that user.? Many forget to do that.? I am guilty of it myself although I do occasionally check to be sure my WP destinations are still forwarding partners.
?
And that is how some P type WP still get forwarded around using the HA.

do not know how to properly set up their Whitepages (WP) part of BPQ. They send them out as bulletins or receive properly addressed WP to their bbs call and drop them into the general mail list instead of quietly placing it into their WP database. No user should ever see a WP message when they ask for a list on the bbs. I have been trying to find complete documentation on this, but I only find small bits or old messages on the mailing list. Can someone blast out the complete logic, instructions and settings for both outgoing WP messages to a partner bbs and how to handle the incoming WP messages for the WP database? Some sysops are giving up on this and they tell their forwarding partners not to send them any WP messages at all. On 4/28/2022 5:19 PM, Mike Melnik wrote:

Note that your user record must not show you as a BBS and must have RMS Express user checked.? They cannot both be checked!

Re: Having trouble adding VaraFM port to existing node
So, I was expecting the message you created in Winlink Express would be transmitted and stored in your BBS.
In this configuration I don't think there is a way to send a message from your BBS to your Winlink P2P session due to having a user record of the same call as Winlink...may be wrong.
?
?
So, wondering why you are not shown on the BPQ node map.? That reveals your BPQ version... What flavor and version of BPQ are you running?

Re: Having trouble adding VaraFM port to existing node
I should also tell you that although you are using Winlink Express as a client your message, if addressed like advised, will be in your BBS and will never be sent to the Winlink CMS.? That is a whold nother can of worms...
?
You will be able to see the message in your BBS either by looking in the Mail Management-Messages, or in WebMail using a browser, if you have that configured (it is by default.)

Re: Having trouble adding VaraFM port to existing node
I probably wasn't clear, but there is no change in the BBS log file since before I made the changes.? From what I can see, there has been no progress.? The BBS has always offered messages but the offer is never displayed on the calling station's Winlink session.
?
My outgoing test message is formatted for P2P and I ran a P2P session.? The two rigs connect, the BBS node offers messages, but the calling station never receives the offer.? After a few seconds, the session times out.
?
Maybe I'm doing something wrong on the Winlink side.
?
I appreciate the time you're putting into this for me.

Re: Having trouble adding VaraFM port to existing node
Well, I see major progress in the log file.? It did connect, it checked for messages, then disconnected.? That's progress.
?
Are you sure the message you created in Winlink Express was addressed to AI7HH-1?
You also needed to be sure the message was formatted as a P2P message.? I forgot to mention that. If it is not then you can double click on the message in the outbox and change it to a P2P message and post it again to the outbox.
Then try your connection again.
?
?
What I am not seeing is your node on the BPQ node map.? Do you have a LOCATOR=DM33tm statement in your configuration?
Go ahead and start BPQ and leave it connected to the internet and lets be sure we can all see it.
