Re: BBS Not working
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Adrian. The default BBS Application number is 1 so check in the BBS config that it is set to 2 (or change your Chat and BBS Applications numbers round) 73, John G8BPQ On 13/07/2024 13:33, Adrian Lane wrote:

Most likely you have the Application numbers in your Chat and BBS configurations mixed up. When I connected to your node and entered BBS I was connected to your CHAT.
I'm not real confident with your Quality and Minqual settings. It's pretty backwards from what I use here, but that is not a cause for not being able to connect to your BBS. But, I do not use netrom on my RF ports... Your applications in your area may be far different than mine. Mark |

Re: Kenwood TS-480 BPQ32 and VARA HF configuration help
I contacted Jose, the author of Vara HF.
He says that when Vara detects Winlink, BPQ, VaraAC etc the com port option would disappear. The com port option in Vara HF would be available if we are connecting only via a KISS application. This means I would have to control PTT from BPQ. So let me change settings in BPQ and start testing. |
Re: Digipeater Setup Question
Thanks everyone for your responses. I have it working now per your guidance. Thanks again. Gary

Your menu is missing the PTT option.? I have seen that option missing before on my copy - usually when I first start the program, but then it eventually appears. 73. Lee K5DAT On Thu, Jul 11, 2024 at 3:28?PM Heber Soto, NP4JN via <np4jn=[email protected]> wrote:

Hi Heber, You can disregard the info in my previous post. I assumed by mentioning CM108 that you were using the GPIO pin in the CM108 for PTT, but later you clarified that it was not the case. Thanks, Lee K5DAT On Wed, Jul 10, 2024 at 10:19?PM Lee D Bengston <kilo5dat@...> wrote:

There's no com port specified in the VARA port in BPQ, however, only "PTT DTR" as one example.
I can see that working if CAT control is used for PTT, but I'm not seeing how BPQ knows what COM port is being used for PTT (with RTS or DTR). In my case I'm using a serial port splitting program to allow QtSM and VARA to use the same serial port for PTT. ?
Yes, that worked for me when I was using external sound instead of a built-in sound card, but I used INTERLOCK so that BPQ would prevent VARA and QtSM from colliding.?
If you are referring to NP4JN in the other thread, yes, that was not clear in the first message posted.

Re: VARA PTT
if COMPORT rts/dtr is used to toggle ptt, the first program to 'claim' the comport has it locked down and no other program can use it. so if running vara alongside soundmodem on the same radio port, one or the other will not be able to ptt. letting bpq handle ptt solves that problem. NOW, if you have a MODIFIED cm108 dongle, the gpio pin is used to toggle ptt and is NOT locked by whatever program uses it first. so that setup, you can have each program toggle ptt on its own. op has a serial cable for cat/ptt and a non modified dongle (no ptt line available) setup. good luck all, kb0wlf On Wed, Jul 10, 2024 at 10:14?PM Lee Bengston via <kilo5dat=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Kenwood TS-480 BPQ32 and VARA HF configuration help
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHeber,You can't specify the PTT com port in the ADDR line. I has to be defined in a RADIO or RIGCONTROL statement. See the documentation for details. But as VARA can also do PTT, unless at some point you will want to add other modems on the same radio it would be easier to do what Lee suggests and let VARA control PTT. You should then remove the PTT COM3 from the ADDR line. 73, John On 11/07/2024 01:32, Heber Soto, NP4JN

Re: Kenwood TS-480 BPQ32 and VARA HF configuration help
Hi Heber,
Are you using a CM108-based DRA-30 or other DRA dongle?? Or is it a basic CM108 dongle modified to use its onboard pin for PTT?? If it hasn't been modded to use the onboard pin, then try adding: RIGCONTROL ?HAMLIB 127.0.0.1:4532 **** to your BPQ's VARA HF port config after your "BW500"? line.? You'll need to have Hamlib configured for your TS-480 and running first, before starting BPQ. |
Re: Kenwood TS-480 BPQ32 and VARA HF configuration help
Hello Heber, I had VARA working at one time with a CM108 sound dongle. I used PTT CM108 in BPQ (see below). Also in the PTT settings in VARA HF I selected "RA Board". I believe "RA Board" refers to the Masters Communications "DRA" devices, which use CM108 and/or equivalent. 73, Lee K5DAT On Wed, Jul 10, 2024 at 7:32?PM Heber Soto, NP4JN via <np4jn=[email protected]> wrote: I have a Kenwood TS-480.? VARA PTT
From the document at
The first line defines the IP address and Port of the VARA
TNC, an optional PTT parameter, and an optional PATH to the VARA exe
file.
If PTT is omitted, VOX operation is assumed. Given VARA HF has its own PTT settings, why specify PTT in BPQ? For example, I have VARA set to use a serial port on the radio for PTT (using RTS). My BPQ port for VARA has no PTT specified, and things seem to work fine. In other words PTT is omitted, but it's not using VOX. Perhaps something changed after the documentation was written?
