So here's the thing, ideally you want an IP range that will fit in with your local RF LAN. So connecting to a US based HamGate might be problematic. However, that's not to say it cannot be done. We would just need to peel your 44.161 subnet out of the UK assignment.
Are you on the 44net mailing list? Let's move over there and pick this up. Someone may have a solution already for the UK. Otherwise, if you are up for it and can afford the server, start a HamGate in the UK. I can share the docs with you seeing as how I built the solution.
