[vsnet-alert 28055] TCP J08374922+0134065: new WZ Sge-type dwarf nova with large early superhump amplitude
---------- Forwarded message ----- From: Yusuke Tampo <tampo@...> Date: Mon, 7 Apr 2025 at 09:14 Subject: [vsnet-alert 28055] TCP J08374922+0134065: new WZ Sge-type dwarf nova with large early superhump amplitude To: vsnet-alert@... <vsnet-alert@...>, vsnet-outburst@... <vsnet-outburst@...>, <vsnet-campaign-dn@...> TCP J08374922+0134065: new WZ Sge-type dwarf nova with large early superhump amplitude TCP J08374922+0134065 was discovered by Y. Nakamura on 3rd April at 14.7 mag. Based on the suggested counterpart (GALEX J083749.2+013407) with g=20.22(2) and the brightest ASAS-SN measurement with g~13.4 mag, the outburst amplitude is 6.8mag. http://www.cbat.eps.harvard.edu/unconf/followups/J08374922+0134065.html https://asas-sn.osu.edu/sky-patrol/coordinate/dce846f3-485d-4614-bace-a8b3e8e376e7 Itoh-san has reported the time-resolved observations on 6th April and the light curve shows a double-peaked modulation with a period of ~0.059 d and an amplitude of 0.2 mag with possible eclipses. Thus TCP J08374922+0134065 is a new WZ Sge-type dwarf nova with high inclination. Time-resolved observations are strongly encouraged. [vsnet-alert 28053] outburst of LINEAR 23795703 - a CV of uncertain type in UMa
---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Kirill Sokolovsky <kirx@...> Date: Tue, 25 Mar 2025 at 23:21 Subject: [vsnet-alert 28053] outburst of LINEAR 23795703 - a CV of uncertain type in UMa To: <vsnet-alert@...> The object LINEAR 23795703 = Gaia DR3 861540207303947776 = P_2.74a is listed as EW with the range 16.41 - 16.94 CV in the VSX https://www.aavso.org/vsx/index.php?view=detail.top&oid=322585 However, El-Badry et al. (2021) https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2021MNRAS.508.4106E/abstract identified it as an eclipsing cataclysmic variable (their object P_2.74a) that showed an outburst in 2015 according to ASAS-SN. El-Badry et al also present a spectrum and radial velocity curve. LINEAR 23795703 was found in outburst again on 2025-03-25.8886 UTC having CV=14.0 +/-0.1 in NMW survey images (135mm f/2.0 telephoto lens + unfiltered ST-8300M CCD). Best wishes, Kirill Sokolovsky for the NMW team

BAA Winchester weekend - VSS display material
The Winchester weekend is soon upon us (April 11 to 13). I shall take the VSS display boards along as usual. If anyone attending the weekend has any material to display, please bring it along with you. A4 printouts work best. Space limited - first come first served. Go well! Jeremy

Photometer
I've received an email from Tom Calderwood, who is head of the AAVSO PEP section, saying that he has an Optec photometer available for use on bright stars, which could be used by a UK observer. Tom says "a prospective observer needs either a cassegrain scope of at least 8 inches apertureor a relatively short-tube refractor of at least 5 inches, equatorially mounted and preferably with GOTO. I can discuss other more specific points with interested individuals". If anyone is interested please contact me personally, not through the alert group, and I'll put you in touch with Tom.
