Meteor echo of the day
A lot of meteor echoes this morning 28 Jan. Note how directional this one is. Not seen by Armagh. And the head echo is much stronger in H Pol than VPol at NW Hampshire.

3D map of Milky Way at LRO 3
Latest 3D map of Milky Way at Lichfield Radio Observatory (LRO) (My house!) Thanks to Ted Cline of SARA who made this plot possible. Software: ezRA and Rinearn3D. I will explain how all this is achieved at EUCARA 2025 as well as demonstrating a 14 element 1420MHz-tuned patch Yagi based radio telescope and a new line of cavity filter's coming from China that can be made to users own specifications and demonstrate a simple wooden mount for hydrogen mapping of the Milky Way that can be easily built at home in a couple of days and requires very little knowledge or skills. UK Meteor Radar Project echo of the day
Nothing particularly interesting here apart from the clearly directional nature of one of the echoes seen only by the Norman Lockyer receiver and one seen by all receivers except Armagh. The antennas point into the same common volume. But this screen shot shows the new layout at https://ukmeteorbeacon.org/beaconclient/ . The receiver client numbers are top row 1-3 Left to Right and bottom row 4-6 Left to right. We hope to have receiver 3 installed in Scotland which will give us more reflection geometry to work with. You may need to refresh your browser to see the new layout. The distance and bearing of the receivers from the transmitter are as follows:- Norman Lockyer Observatory IO80JQ 301km 207 degrees, Armagh IO64RH 234km 293 degrees NW Hampshire 209km 186 degrees We are starting to record full bandwidth data including precision timing for periods of time to create a data set that can be used to develop event recognition and analysis software.

HAARP Research Campaign 27-31 January 2025 UTC
?Please see attached Notice of Transmission for the research campaign. Notes: ** There is new online form for submitting reception reports as indicated in the notice; ** The notice includes a Supplemental document with general information that we hope will help you observe the HAARP transmissions; ** Also included with the notice is an AIRGlow Observer Guide. We have plenty of darkness at 62 deg. N latitude right now so there may be some experiments to produce visible manifestations of the ionosphere heating; ** It is possible there will be a rocket launch at Poker Flat that will be supported by HAARP as indicated in the notice. Meteor echo of the day 8
Hello Folks. How many of you spotted that for the last few weeks the Norman Lockyer Observatory had become the Normal Lockyer Observatory. This typo crept in while work was being done on the server software which is being changed so that the receiver ident information can be changed locally when we move or re-direct a receiver. We might for example re-direct one of the receivers to BRAMS, VVS or Graves from time to time. In the mean time here's a candidate for meteor echo of the day. Please feel free to post your own. We have established a gallery of exotic echoes at https://ukmeteorbeacon.org/EpsilonList . Please feel free to add your own screenshots of the GB3MBA live streams. All the best Brian

Which Antenna Orientation to use for Meteor Observation 3
Hi, I have a 6m wire antenna (par end fez) and am planning to use this to detect meteor reflections from the UK Meteor Beacon GB3MBA. Does the orientation matter? As a wire I can set up in any config? Thanks Tony

BAA RAZoom Friday 10th Jan 19:30 Atmospheric Ionisation 2
Developing and deploying an instrument for measuring ionisation in the atmosphere Dr Justin Tabbett - School of Civil, Aerospace and Design Engineering Bristol University Something a little different for Radio Astronomers...! High energy particles from space ¨C cosmic rays - contribute significantly to the ionisation of the atmosphere and can affect electronics as well as the weather and climate. Having tools which can be deployed during periods of changing cosmic ray activity are vital to understanding the effects of cosmic rays in different regions of the atmosphere. This talk explores the development and then the deployment of such an instrument on a balloon flight in July 2024 The Zoom link will be sent out Wed. Jan. 8th. If you are not on the distribution list let me know. Registration on EUCARA25 opens on 31st Jan. -- ??? Paul Hearn ?? paul@... ?? RA Section Director ??
