Re: X3 Flare observations 9 Feb
Hi Mark, Thanks for information. I'm ?in Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire, I've ran the VLF receiver for around 12 months now and it's good to get some feedback on what I'm observing. I've had

NRK Grindavik back on air
I see that NRK on 37.5kHz made an appearance yesterday and today, despite the most recent eruption. It was timely as it recorded around a dozen SIDs from all the C-class flares. - see plot Mark

Interferometer - are these fringes from Sun?
Can anyone tell me whether the timing on the peaks below and the length of time from first to last peak is consistent with fringes from the Sun on my AD8302-based interferometer? Red is VPhase and

Re: X3 Flare observations 9 Feb
Phil - your observation was exactly what I would expect with such an intense flare. I have overlain your trace with mine for 23.4kHz and they are very similar. I don't now where you live but the

Re: X3 Flare observations 9 Feb
A little late, I am just catching up. Here is my SID and magnetometer trace from the 9th. A very sharp double dip on the VLF receivers with the signal from DHO dropping to the noise floor. Starting

Re: X3 Flare observations 9 Feb
Hello, ??? ??? For the stronger flares you often get this 'spike and wave' shaped SID where the interference pattern from the sky wave / ground wave causes the signal strength to change from

Re: X3 Flare observations 9 Feb
Hello, In light of the comments regarding the SID on 9 Feb I thought I would have a look at what I recorded. ?I have attached a screen shot for that day and I have recorded it - I think although its

Here are my observations of the X3.3 SID showing the characteristic 'bouncing' produced when a large decrease in the ionospheric height moves the sky wave through the in phase or out of phase point.

Re: X3 Flare observations 9 Feb
My Magnetometer is not well maintained and the recent winds dislodged my wheel barrow, but never the less I did manage to see the flare on the 9th. It must have been a fairly major event. David Farn

Re: X3 Flare observations 9 Feb
No more X-flares this morning, so that big spike does look like a local effect of some sort. John.

I saw a small dip on E-W but would not have noticed it unless alerted. There was a spike this morning at just before 10 am. Callum
