Hello Martin
Thanks for the info.? I took a look on some of those frequencies
but so far the only one I received anything on was 46.400 which
had some kind of pulsed transmission. It was fairly strong on a
vertical antenna while on the horizontal beam which was not tuned
to 46MHz so could mislead, it seemed to peak to the east of my
location in NW Hampshire.
Regards
Brian

Slightly off-topic, but this may be of general interest.
?
I recently performed a bit more investigation, regarding
the UK meteor scatter system and Wind profiling radar that
operate around 46MHz.
?
I wrote to the meteor scatter system operating company, and
received a lot of useful information.
?
The site I originally found many years ago in Oxfordshire, no
longer exists, and despite me thinking it was still operating
somewhere in the area, it is not.
?
The Meteor Burst radio networks are now considered to be
legacy systems.
?
They hold three frequencies for use of Meteor Burst:
?
? ? 46.400MHz
? ? 46.950MHz
? ? 49.750MHz
?
A station at Stanmore, North of London, was the main master
station from 1988 to 2014 and broadcast on 46.975 and 46.4,
however this station was decommissioned in 2014.
?
There are only two Meteor Master Stations still remaining in
the UK:
?
Bacton, Norfolk - Master station. This operates on 46.975 /
46.95 and has antennae which are orientated NE to cover the
Southern North Sea. This is most likely the station which is
being picked up in Europe. The antennae are vertical 3 element
Yagis
?
I think this is the tower with the antennas as seen on Google
Streetview.
?
?
Waltham on the Wolds, Leicestershire - This operates on 46.4
but is defunct. The transmitter is still operating, but there
are no outstations currently reporting in. The antennae are
orientated NW and SW and are vertically orientated 3 element
Yagis.
?
I think this is the tower with two views of the separate
antennas as seen on Google Streetview.
?
?
?
Basically the master station polls on 46.975 generally at 30mS
or so, the outstations respond on 46.950 when they have
something to say.
?
The master stations are transmitting at 500W whilst the
outstations are only 100W.
?
I also checked the University of Wales website, and the
46.5MHz (46.4 & 46.95MHz) MST radar near Aberystwyth seems
to have been switched off sometime in 2024.
?
?
I wonder what they intend to do with the antenna system ?
?
Regards,
?
