Trying to find information or video on replacing belt on 101.07301 head stock. I replaced old belt with link belt. I do not like the tension required on link belt to prevent slipping. I would apricate any help with this,? ?
Thanks Gen Isley

You will need to disassemble the headstock assembly.?

Gen, Do you have any literature on the Craftsman/Atlas lathe? Is your lathe a 6” or 10/12”?

I just looked up your model and it is a 6”.? Does this one have babbit bearings which are a split bearing like a engine rod, or does it have Timken roller bearings?

In my experience the link belts do not...and should not.... require more tension than the original belt.
Are the pulleys worn and/or glazed?
Is the link belt properly sized to mate well to the pulley?

I have been using Nu T Link belt on my 12 X 24 Atlas Craftsman 101.07403 lathe for the last 20 years at least. ?I use this lathe several times a week in my pump repair work.
?
I have found that the direction of the links is very important to their power transmission ability. ?With the belt arranged so the highest part of each link is toward the countershaft and the lowest portion of each link toward the headstock pulley gives the best results. ?
?
I would also say these belts need time to run in before they perform at their best.
?
Please let us know how your belt has its links arranged, and if not installed as described above, try swapping around and let us know if thats any better.

10-4 on Brian and Pumpguy?that is exactly what I was going to say!

Thanks. I will check it out. I have had a link belt on my 12inch inch craftsman for several years with no problems. This thing with the 6 inch has baffled me. ?I really appreciate the help.?

I think you guys solved my problem. Not sure if I had instructions with the belt. Maybe have thrown them away thinking I knew what I was doing after I had installed?a belt on my 12 inch lathe years ago. My skills and memory have been fading with age. ?I was about ready to start taking the head stock down. Maybe have to make a few adjustments later after?I run it as you suggested.
