Craftsman 101.07301 with a 383.22970 chuck
I have a quick question, purchased a 101.07301 with a 383.22970 chuck and wanted to know how to use the chuck?
The seller told me it came with a working chuck and key, chuck was a bit frozen so i took it a part and cleaned. Works well now but don't see anywhere where the key fits into the chuck to lock anything in place. I understand how to open and close it and see a large nut in the back, but am i missing something? Should I be able to use the included key to somehow tighten the chuck? Holes in the chuck head don't go anywhere Below are some pictures. Any help would be appreciated |
开云体育It looks like the chuck on my little Unimat.? I believe you just use a piece of rod (called a tommy bar) to turn the scroll to tighten it.? You may need to use a cresent wrench on a jaw for leverage. ? Kurt S. ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]>

开云体育That key is not for that chuck. The chuck you have takes a spanner wrench that goes in the holes on the chuck, spinning the outer ring. Another square wrench goes on the flats on the back of the chuck to keep the chuck from turning when you tighten the chuck with the spanner.?On Apr 17, 2020, at 9:55 AM, anash13@... wrote:

开云体育That’s what it looks like to me, too.? The chuck key doesn’t go to that chuck.? If you don’t have anything else that the key will fit, you might cut off the square end and turn the nose of the remainder down to be a loose slip fit into the three holes in the scroll.? That would give you a T-handle Tommy Bar. ? Robert Downs ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Kurt Sierens

开云体育The pin spanner is the better idea, as a simple tommy bar may eventually wallow out the hole in the chuck ring and slip when tightening. ?If the pin spanner encompasses a full half circle, or close to it, there is no way it can slip. Many years ago, I made a set of two pin spanners for the chuck on a Sherline lathe. ?Two, because there was a hole in the chuck body in addition to the hole in the tightening ring. ?Much better than two tommy bars.
