The pulley came in today and is now mounted and I was pleasantly surprised the pulley and gear are now two separate pieces staked together with two locking screws and both parts are machined instead of cast. The gear and pulley appear to be made from aluminum which I feel is better overall than zamak. While I was happy to see that the part I would be putting on was superior to the one that failed, I have to complain that the part didn't work out of the box.
The inner and outer bearings pressed in the pulley were way too big for the spindle shaft of the MK2 lathe. I suspect that clausing later used this gear for other applications where the bearings were correclty sized. Be aware if you find yourself in my position and have to buy one of these pulley/gears you will have to re-use your original bushings or make new ones.? It wasn't too big of a hassle to press one set out and press the other set in, but if you don¡¯t have access to a press you will have to seek out alternative methods to swap them. It was a little disheartening pressing in old bushings into a 375 (they have some really expensive shipping) dollar pulley/gear combo.?
