Petition: ARRL support for DYNAMIC (VARA) mode

Good evening. ?VaraC has gained popularity and growth. ?The ADIF specification added support in Dec 2022. ?LoTW has not yet implemented support for VARA QSOs. ?Please consider signing the following petition to encourage the ARRL to add support in LOTW. https://chng.it/SCb995cQMC

Jason,

Have you asked Rick Murphy, K1MU, if he will add VARA to TQSL?

Scott,
I contacted the ARRL several times in 2022 and 2023 asking for the mode to be added.
?
Thank you for this suggestion. ?I will contact Rick and will ask him to add support to TQSL.

That configuration is managed by ARRL, not by me. You can always map VARA QSOs using direct radio-to-radio contacts to "DATA: for upload to Logbook.

Rick,
Thank you for this feedback. Thinking that might have been the case.
?
QRZ and EQSL online logbooks have added support to log VARA QSO. ?Looking to get VARA support added to LOTW is a mode that is gaining popularity and use.

Hi Rick,?
Thanks for the clarification.

Jason,? Good luck getting the mode added.? ?The?ARRL may still be cleaning up some of the mess from last year's security breach and any changes may be low priority still. They at least owe you a response one way or the other. Get your SM and Director involved if you have to. Squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Scott,
Thank you for this suggestion. I will reach out to the section manager to ask for support as well.
?
We have been using VaraC for the monthly MDC section EMCOMM monthly challenges for some time now. ?Lots of great features have been added to VaraC to support alerting, beaconing, image delivery, mail parking, path discovery, and now checking will be supported. ?We have been using VaraC for both HF and 2M connections.

it is a really great program and would encourage everyone to check it out.

+ After 2018 and before the ARRL's failure to survive a ransom-ware attack in May 2024 (due to the absence of immutable backups and a tested disaster recovery plan), there was no one at the ARRL capable of extending the LoTW Server to support the VARA mode, as has long been requested here and elsewhere.

+ As a result of this attack, the ARRL was forced to hire a developer to enable continued operation of its ancient DXCC application in a more secure environment; this in turn required changes to the interoperation between that ancient DXCC application and LoTW. The developer they hired is the same engineer who originally implemented LoTW and released it in 2003. This developer is likely capable of making the changes required to support VARA. I encourage ARRL members here to engage with their ARRL Directors and request that the long-requested support for VARA be implemented in LoTW.
