I was on FB this morning when their problems started, but I thought?someone had just hacked my account. I typed a comment but FB wouldn't post it. I got the sense that someone had changed my password so I tried to reset the password. That first appeared to work but then I couldn't actually log in with the new password. It got weird when I asked it to send me a recovery code (from a "forgot you password?" link).?It sent me a code but didn't accept it. I stopped and tried again hours later. Then, when I asked for a code, I got 2 emails with different numbers! (and it simply failed when I asked to get a code via text.) I paused and for hours again and just tried again. Now it only sends me one number but says it's not the right code when I enter it. Does anyone have any idea whether FB accounts are mostly still not working? My wife never tried to change her password today and says her account is working. Do I just wait it out or is there something I should be doing?
Thanks, Dan Freidus

I had a similar problem this morning, which made me really nervous. I was able to successfully log in, and have had no problems since. But that doesn't mean I'm not nervous.?

I had several customers?that all thought their account had been hacked (again). Sort of sad that a user base default assumption when they can't get into their account is it has been hacked. Fortunately, they didn't make things worse in their reset attempts and when things settled down, they were joyously able to log back in again.

Patricia, Did you change your password today? It won't accept my old one or the new one I thought I had changed it to.

Dan,
I did some of the same steps this morning - requested an emailed code to log in, tried different browsers - but stopped short of changing my password. I tried to go to Twitterto see if people were posting anbout Facebook being down, ?and it was taking forever to load. I got my confirmation finally on BlueSky. I waited until later in the day and was able to log in again with my old password.

Hey Dan!
I had a similar experience today (including failed text code and weird email code timing) before learning of the outage. I apparently was never successful in getting my password change request to go through, so using the previous one now works. Have you tried your original (old) password?

What happened was Facebook went down due to hacking for a few hours. But when it came back as far as browsers it took me until late afternoon to get into the Facebook Android app. & there are a couple third party games I use my Facebook account to log into & 1 of those didn't start working again until about 9pm. I'm not confident I've gotten everything back. I sent emails to Meta & the game developer for that 1 game that stayed non-functional until near 9pm. I was in chat with Google as well about this & a few other issues that we thought might be related for a couple hours. I've heard some other major websites were also hacked this morning & brought down or otherwise greatly affected.

Thanks for all the insights.
Well, it's finally over. This morning was equally bizarre. FB let me get back in on my phone (explaining that it was because I was logged on Messenger on the same device). But on my laptop, my old PW didn't work because one of my attempts to change the PW yesterday had apparently been successful though it would accept what I had tried to change it to. For a while, every attempt to get to a "change password" screen only led me to a login screen. I eventually got out of the loop and changed the password (after being accused of "engaging in behavior that may be considered annoying or abusive by other users." I was apparently "going too fast when taking an action" and was told? that I "must significantly slow down."? I have no idea what caused the original problem but it's astounding to me how user unfriendly their site can be sometimes.
