I have been fooling around with using Dan Cooney's
"Simpicity of the Semantic Web" as a background image and then using the circles and lines in it to actually organize what I'm working on at the moment. See for a sample of same - click through to the Flickr page for best results. thanks Ed |

There was a lot that flew past - if anyone wants to help me
out with this, use delicious to tag pages with a2b3 and I'll summarize what I find. That's some things in particular - figure 8 bus races - figure 8 car and boat trailer races - "myspace nightmare" (Detroit Free Press story) - micro drive-ins - simultaneous geek meals in A2 and Berkeley - web sites for local units of government - trolling on Slashdot tag them please! thanks Ed |

non-summary lunch May 4th
didn't go through that I saw it, but now
it did! thanks Dan! Ed ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Dan Cooney <dcooney@...> Date: May 8, 2006 12:32 AM Subject: Fwd: non-summary lunch May 4th Hey Ed, Did this ever get through to the list? ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Dan Cooney <dcooney@... > Subject: non-summary lunch May 4th To: a2b3@... Here is the summary for yesterday's A2B3 lunch. Going around the table, attendees were: Matt Hampel, Larry Kestenbaum, Joe Cothrel, Lance Carlson, Dave Barnett, Jose Nazario, Nat Poor and myself. We discussed: the magic of Stephen Colbert the tension between community sites as channels of communication and resource sharing for existing communities, or as environments that are developed to let a community emerge and find a voice. the magic of Las Vegas, and the likelihood of robot versions of Sigfried and Roy the tensions between Toledo and Cleavland! the lack of business skills in many smart people with great ideas. typo-squatting, Jeigermeister translations, etc. making a search tool off the del.icio.us API (maybe as a Google beta) that uses Greasmonkey and Cloudmark open-source economic models Ann Arbor Is Overrated vs. Arbor Update and many more things I know I missed, but generally continuing to solve the problems of the world. -- Daniel Cooney -- Daniel Cooney |

non-summary of lunch 4/27
this is brief
Brian Corsa talked about the impending move of the U of M Museum of Art. Lots of art to be moved to storage, lots of staff to be moved to new temp HQ at Rackham, plus the new exhibit space at South U and Forest where Mitch's used to be. There was a lot more discussion but that's what stuck as news. thanks Ed |

Data recovery center in BSRB
If your hard disk dies and you need to have some way
to get the data off it locally, here's one new source for help. I haven't used them myself. thanks! Ed ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Eric Pinaud <megabyte@...> Date: Apr 19, 2006 4:05 PM Subject: Data recovery center in BSRB To: unix-admins@... Hello all; I wanted to send out a quick email to announce that we (Cell and Developmental Biology) have setup a small Data Recovery center, which will be located in BSRB, room 3056. We are setup to recover data from Macs as well as PCs, laptops and desktops. We should be able to recover data in most instances except in case of heavy physical damage to the drive. We can also try recovery from other media (flash drives, memory cards, etc¡), on a case by case basis. We are setup as an Ontrack affiliate, so that any drive we cannot deal with ourselves we can send directly to Ontrack, where they can do their magic. We will receive a 15% discount on their work, which will be passed on to the owner of the drive. We will be charging an hourly rate, with a one hour non-refundable diagnostics fee. The rate is pending official approval, but it will be no more than $80/hour, for time actually spent on the computer (not elapsed time). We will accept shortcodes for recharges, as well as checks, or cash. This service is open to anyone, not just limited to UofM folks. If you have any questions, feel free to email me directly. Regards; Eric Pinaud Technical Support Manager Cell and Developmental Biology University of Michigan Medical School |
