Re: online volunteering opportunity at National Archives
I've had disastrous results with scanning typewriter-produced documents.? I wonder if Google Pinpoint would help on those?

I've been a book publisher since 2003, and I often get very weird ephemera and personal letters that people want to include in books etc

Re: online volunteering opportunity at National Archives
I saw this and am tempted to try my hand at it. Last year, I transcribed some text for the project. The website would show you an image of an old postcard and you were to transcribe the handwritten messages on the front and back of postcards. It looks like this project is now complete, though.

Thanks, Jennifer. The Smithsonian and Library of Congress also have volunteer?transcription programs: There's also a site that lists projects, by topic, from a variety of mostly smaller institutions (UM's Clements Library used to have projects listed here but I don't think they do now):?

Re: URGENT - Help/Advise - Sewer Line Froze
They came and cleared a sink drain for us last year. They had to snake out about 50 feet and it cost about $250. I think their charge is based on the size of the line, rather than time they spend working. That said, I can't remember if they did it all with a small snake or had to go into a bigger machine since they went into the outdoor pipes.
