Suggestions needed: Riding Lawn Mower Repair

Hi, all,
Our riding lawn mower is one we bought at Sears a long time ago (Craftsman), and we always had the repairs and maintenance done through Sears. Now that Sears is gone, what's the best place to call? It's grinding instead of starting, and I'm suspecting a sparkplug problem, but we don't seem to have a tester handy.
