Subject: [a2b3] Dan Friedus in today's "a2view" from the Ann Arbor Observer on NYPL cookbook collection
?
quoting now:

A2 collector donates rare cookbooks to New York Public Library
collection: Daniel Freidus, a retired U-M academic adviser, has given
Dorot Jewish Division more than 250 items that he acquired online, at
book fairs around the country, and by browsing specialized bookstores,
according to an NYPL blog post. Among the books he¡¯s gifted are ¡°Like
Mama Used to Make: a Collection of Favorite and Traditional Jewish
Dishes,¡± which was published by the Women of the Ann Arbor Chapter of
Hadassah in 1952.

From NYPL:

Daniel¡¯s incredible dedication, commitment, energy, and enthusiasm are
well captured by the Yiddish word zamler, meaning a voluntary
collector¡ªone of those great lovers of libraries who played a crucial
role in building Jewish collections in Europe in the first half of the
20th century and brought this tradition with them to America.

And there is yet another deep connection that makes Daniel¡¯s
contribution even more meaningful. Daniel Freidus comes from a? family
with roots in Riga, Latvia, directly related to Abraham Freidus, the
first Head of the Jewish Division of The New York Public Library
(1897¨C1923). One can tell that passion for books and libraries really
runs in the family, whose spiritual connection to NYPL seems to pass
through generations.
