I have two very different versions of the #2303 New York Central
reefer. Both cars are yellow with a green stripe, white lettering
and silver roof and ends.
The differences are several. Both boxes are labeled differently.
Car 1000's box says N.Y.C. 50FT Mech. Reefer while car 1020 says New
York Cen. 50' Mechan. Reefer.
The cars themselves have variations. (warning, this can be
confusing!) The yellow carbody on car 1000 is a duller yellow than
car 1020. The green stripe on car 1000 is wider than the stripe on
car 1020. The lettering on car 1000 has the lettering to the left
of the door crowded together and lettering on the right spaced for
the ribs while car 1020 has spaced out lettering to the left of the
door (but not spaced for the ribs), lettering to the right is not
spaced at all for the ribs.
I will try to scan both of these cars and post them to the group
once I get the scanner rigged up again.
After reading what Mr. Irwin has on his website about this car, I
found both cars and compared them and found differences and figured
most here would like to know.
