Loren,

Don't worry, I prefer black Sharpies. Knives are just too risky!

Ah yes, I love the smell of Sharpie in the morning....

Re: ID colors

All:

No matter how long I've been in this hobby, I keep learning something.

In an offline discussion with a Marklin European runner, we discussed
two-axle cars and how to ID them. Obviously, they have no "truck" like 4-wheel
American rolling stock.

Suggestion: In order to protect any collector's value of such cars just paint
the metal axle shaft on the two axles of the car. Don't let the paint get on
any part of the car itself.

If the car turns out to be worth a fortune on eBay, it wouldn't take a lot to
restore the car:

* Paint stripper and a Q tip (with the axle removed)
* Xacto knife (gently scrape the paint off)
* Replace the axle with a new one
* Ladies superfine sandpaper nail file
* etc., etc.

On locomotives (all kinds) paint the heads of screws on the bottom of the
loco. Screws can be backed out (one at a time) and cleaned up.

No, I don't own any of the solid gold locos with jewels for running lights,
so its not an issue for me. <smile>

[offline] colors

Steve:

I purchased a package of the DecoColor pens a while age and started
using HOT purple and HOT pink as i didnt think anyone else would have
those colors in mind, and NO ONE would clain those colors at a show.
Could these colors be registered to me?
I'm not sure the descriptor "hot" needs to be in the chart. Pink is already
there, but purple is not (maroon is). I have no problem adding "purple" as a
color.

May I have your last name for the chart, please?

One question. AZL couplers don't have pins. What to do? These will be
appearing on the coal porters, and autoracks.

I think that we need to have security at all train shows check for paint pens. Will they set off
the magnatometers? IF not can the sniffer dogs detect them. Minimum sentance for carring one
would be----- source for next poll.

Bill,
Are we supposed to take sides and place our money on one color or the other? I'll put my money on Bryan, reason being, I don't think he has three girls like Rob does. Rob must be tired, thereby giving Bryan an advantage.

Bill,
I've always figured Rob for being one sharp razor. Wish I had thought of
that black on black.

"Now Rob, no one I know would ever accuse you of being a low down ,
conniving cattle rustler (car rustler) but I gotta warn you.....if I ever
see you standing there whistling Dixie, with a pocket knife in one hand,
holding a car upside down with the other, well, then I just might get a bit
suspicious!"

Too bad I didn't sell Rob a dozen MTL display cases for all those "rustled"
cars.....I could have cleaned up myself!!

Regarding the color pairs: Is black an option for ONE color? I'd actually
like
to claim red and black, if that's possible.
Interesting idea. The pins are black to start with, and your proposal is
just to paint one of them, correct?

Any comments anyone?

Rob Kluz, you don't count. You already claimed black and black. <frown>

Loren, others:

Before you go to the mess of brush painting the bolster pins (remixing the
paint and cleaning the brush), you might want to look at the DuroColor paint
pens at Michael's Arts and Crafts. If the bolster pin is clean (wipe it with
a
Q-tip and alcohol first if you are not sure) a paint pen is a lot faster
method.

Our "dots" are holding fast after 8 years, even on surfaces that get rubbed a
lot, like the bottoms of expansion track and hand tools. Its a solvent based
paint, not water based, and covers the black pins with a single stroke.

We even paint the sides of our rails with one, and that's survived track
cleaning for 8 years, too.

Just a thought.

As long as everyone is clear that any cars with black on black are mine, I am
good! I really cleaned up at the recent NTS. I didn't even know I owned so
many cars and locomotives!

Red-Red - ID color for DC Group

randy smidt

Hi All,

I'm causing more trouble again. Someone raised the question about ID'ing group/s property as well. Well I just realized that the DC Z-Bend Track group now has some communal property, so I would like to claim red-red based on the stars on the DC city flag. Yes, I went out and bought a bunch of DECO color pens last night. ;-)

If you have picked colors that are available in them, you could even use finger nail polish for a quick swipe of color.

Rats. I mistyped. Its the DECOcolor brand, not Durocolor.

PS: Michael's has some unique special-for-them colors not commonly found in
other sources (i.e., an Internet search on "decocolor").

Sometimes I not only see green colors on my old food, but I actually see movement on the surface! Hmmmmm......I wonder if it is a new species?

Bill,

Now that I have been assigned my own personal color, green/green, I feel
impotent........uh, I mean important!

I notice I am right next to Randy Smidt on the chart. He is green/yellow.
Randy, don't you dare let any of your cars get too close to my
cars.......we
don't want any PALE greenish cars to show up unexpectedly."

Bill, putting color dots on expansion track, tools, etc. is a great idea.
But putting color dots on my food is going too far! Nobody better touch
my
BLT sandwich made with Miracle Whip........now them's fighting words!!

Thanks for the colors.......am I now in a gang,......huh, am I, am I?
When do I get to go out and bust somebody's couplers?

Loren

I guess while we're at it, I've been using Green on White for the bolster
pins / under carriage.

On your chart(s), how does one know that JM or BAZ belongs to any one person
or club? Just contact you for the master address?

Gee, its a long, involved and tedious process of assigning colors IDs.
<wink, wink>

Don't forget to put color dots on your tools, expansion tracks, etc.,
which
are identical to everyone else's. Depending on the club you are in, you
may
have to mark your food in the community icechest under the drapes, too.
