?Andrew focused his spyglass on the distant ship on the horizon.? The one that was keeping its distance but also the one that had altered its course to match that of the Elusive.? He doubted that this was mere coincidence. Lowering the spyglass, he frowned in thought.? Much as he didn't want to, he would need to inform Evone' of their apparent shadow.

"Evone', my love," he said quietly, coming to where she was sitting on the forward deck on a pile of coiled rope, "there's something you need to see."? He handed the spyglass to her and pointed to a barely visible spot on the far horizon, a few points to the right of their course.? He waited until it seemed that she had the thing in sight.? "It appears to be shadowing us.? I wasn't sure at first, but whenever we make a course change, it matches it.? And it's been trying to keep out of sight.? We lose it now and then, but it always reappears if we keep looking for it."

"I'm going to try to lose them when the sun finally sets.? But I felt you should know."? He took the spyglass back and folded it up.? "I'll wager a guinea that it's your unlamented husband and his pirate partner."

At the sound of her name, she looked up at Andrew with a smile on her face. He would be able to see the happiness and peace in her eyes. With him...on this ship she felt at home.

"My god, have I told you just how fucking handsome you are?" she said reaching for his cheek and then sitting forward to kiss his lips softly.? She listened intently to his words until he said? "Lucas," she said softly. "Lucas is out there? Following us? You mean he's found me again? " He would see it there...in her eyes...fear, terror. She remembered what happened the last time. How Lucas has...what Lucas did... she hadn't been herself with him. He had changed her...

Evone's swallowed, nodded then stood. "What do we do?"?

"I don't know for sure that it's him," Andrew said, collapsing the spyglass and tucking it away.? "But I can't imagine why any other ship would be acting the way this one is.? At any rate, it's probably safest to assume that it's him and his she-wolf partner."

He put an assuring hand on Evone's shoulder.? "I believe we can outrun him once the sun sets.? The trick is to know which tack he's most likely to take looking for us.? He knows where we're heading, and we know where he's heading. So it's a matter of which one of us out-guesses the other."? He tapped a finger against his chin, thinking.? "I don't want to end up going head-to-head with them if I can avoid it, at least for now.? The Elusive is faster but their ship has more guns."? He thought a moment longer, then nodded to some inner thought.? "We need a safe harbor.? And if possible an ally." Looking up, he gave Evone' a reassuring smirk.? "And I think I know where we can get both."

Evone’ continued to stare out at the ship in the distance. Lucas. She thought she was free of him. But he wanted her. For some reason he really wanted her. So much so that he hired Andrew to find her, hooked up with a pirate to keep her. Drugged her. ?She didn’t even know why?

”okay,” ?Evone’ said softly. “I trust you,” But she could feel the tension and panicked bubbling up in herself…feel it rising. Becoming stifling

“Andrew,” she called to him as she continued to stare off at the ship. “Do you know why he’s after me? You came back for me for a reason. You didn’t let my husband just take me and go. You knew I was in danger. What did you learn?” She asked turning to face. “What don’t I know? Tell me.”

Andrew was quiet for a long moment.? He didn't want to tell her, but there was no way to avoid it now that she'd asked him directly.

"Apparently your father is - unknowingly - set to inherit some very valuable land in France.? Your husband found out about it somehow.? And with your father in poor health and you as his only child, the title to that land will likely be passed down to you in the near future.? And since you're still legally his wife, the title, once it's yours, would pass to him if anything happened to you." He took Evone's hands in his.? "And he was making plans for something to happen to you.? He got a lawyer to draw up some papers that he was going to get you to sign to give him immediate control, but that was only a temporary measure. He was going to have you meet with a fatal accident or mystery ailment that would result in your untimely death."

"That, my love, is why I came after you," Andrew said finally, his eyes blazing with anger as he added?"And why I will kill him the very first chance I get."

Evone’ was quiet will she processed everything Andrew said. So not only did she just learn that her husband wanted her dead, she learned that most likely her father was dead also.

Tears fill her eyes at the information. Not the Lucas thing. She had somewhat came to grips the Lucas wanted her dead thing on the ship. They way he treated her was indicative of someone who didn’t care about her…but her father...no she didn’t know that.

her father was the only family she had left. He was everything to her. And to learn she her lost him…this way…was painful.

She also had an inheritance. Which she knew about because her father was already a wealthy man, But it had to be a sizable inheritance for Lucas to go through as much trouble as he went through. It made sense he wasn’t just letting her go.?

“I understand and I approve of whatever you have planned.”

The days passed.? Andrew let the strange ship continue to shadow them for a few days, but then made a sharp course change one night and used the Elusive's greater speed to put more distance between them.? He continued on that course for the next two days before making another correction to put the ship back on course for their original destination, but this time using all of his skill to keep the ship constantly moving at a speed he knew to be greater than the other ship's.? His tactic seemed to work for the other ship failed to reappear on their horizon.? Still, he remained cautious and always had one of the crew keeping watch at all times

The nights were the only time he would relax, when he and Evone' could be alone together.? During the day, he did his best to let her have the freedom of the ship and the opportunity to learn some of the basic shipboard skills from the different crewmen he tasked with teaching her.? But nighttime was their quiet time together.

"With luck," he said to her one night after their evening meal, "we might be sighting some islands off the coast of Brittany soon.? From there, it'll only be a few days to the nearest port."? He smiled a little, taking her hand.? "We've been lucky with the weather.? A little more luck and we'll be able to take you to your father.? I... I hope we'll find him in good health."

Evone had been learning so much on ship. So much that she hoped the crew consider her to be apart of the crew, not just the captain’s lover. She couldn’t swim yet, but hopeful that would come soon.

As she stood at the side rail looking out at the beautiful night sky. The stars, the moon. She nodded as he spoke to her, turning to walk into his embrace. “Thank you for doing this for me. I… I don’t know what to say.”

"Just say that you're mine," Andrew said, holding her close, "and that you always will be, whatever may come our way.? Just as I will be yours, no matter what lies ahead."? He was surprised and proud of how well Evone' was adapting to life on the ship.? The crew had gotten used to her presence and several of the men were more than happy to show her the ropes.? Quite literally when it came to the rigging and how to secure things with different ties and knots.

It was only a few days later that Andrew came to Evone' below deck and told her that he had a surprise for her and to close her eyes.? Once she'd done so, he led her up the stairs to the foredeck and pointed her to face outwards.? "Open your eyes now," he murmured, taking his hands away.

?It was an island on the horizon, but Evone' didn't notice anything unusual about it and looked back to the Captain of the Elusive questioningly.? "It's called Ushant," Andrew explained.? "It means that we are now in French territorial waters.? And with any luck, tomorrow we'll make port in France itself."? He slipped his arms around his beloved's waist.? "It means you're almost home, my love.? We made it."

“I was yours the moment you looked at me.” Evone’ said stroking his cheek and kissing his lips. “And I will always be yours as long as you will have me.”

Evone’ hadn’t quite been feeling herself lately. Which was so strange because she and Andrew had been in a state of bliss. Their days were spent caring for the particular duties on ship, while their nights were spent making love, or talking or simply just quietly enjoying each other’s company. She never imagined she could be so happy. But she was. Even if sea sickness seemed to be taking her more and more lately.

So when he interrupted her reading for a surprise, she happily put her book down, “you know I love surprises,” she said as she closed her eyes and stood up.

?Evone’ chuckle as she did so. “How am I suppose to followed with my eyes closed.”?But somehow she managed.

When he told her to uncover her eyes and she found herself standing at the deck, at first she was puzzled. That confusion showed on her face until he explained. Then her face lit up and she threw herself in his arms. “Thank you. Thank you so much,” she said kissing his lips over and over again. “I love you so much.”
